NEW DELHI: The lower house of the world’s largest democracy India passed five important pieces of legislation within five minutes.
Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government rushed through five laws in the Lok Sabha, bypassing all debate.
The move prompted the entire opposition, except the Telugu Desam Party, to stage a walkout.
Proceedings were disrupted for the fourth consecutive day over the proposal to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and create a separate state of Telangana.
The bills were passed on the last day of the winter session of the lower house. Lok Sabha passed eight bills in 17 minutes without discussion during last year’s winter session.
The bills include the Commercial Division of High Courts Bill 2009 ; the Civil Defence (Amendment) Bill 2009; the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill 2009; the Legal Metrology Bill 2009 (to ensure uniformity in weights and measures), and the Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill 2009 (to simplify the trademark registration process).

Eric Wood Injury, Bills rookie offensive lineman Eric Wood suffered an ugly injury in the third quarter of Buffalo’s 18-15 loss to Jacksonville. The injury was so bad, in fact, that CBS opted not to show any replays of the play because it was too gruesome.
Wood was rolled up on during a Buffalo pass play, and his left leg bent at an extremely unnatural angle. According to the Bills, Wood fractured both his tibia and fibula, and stayed in Jacksonville to have immediate season-ending surgery. The injury was easily one of the worst in the NFL this season and could wind up keeping Wood out of the lineup for much longer than the final six weeks of 2009. Courtesy nfl.fanhouse.com
