“Thank God I’m a Country Boy” is a song written by John Martin Sommers and recorded by singer/songwriter John Denver.
The song was originally included on Denver’s 1974 album Back Home Again. A version recorded live at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles was included on his 1975 album An Evening With John Denver.
The live version was released as a single and went to No. 1 on both the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song topped both charts for one week each, first the country chart (on May 31), and the Hot 100 chart a week later.
“Thank God I’m a Country Boy” was one of six songs released in 1975 that topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot Country Singles charts. Denver’s two-sided hit “I’m Sorry”/”Calypso” also received that distinction.

American Idol Top 24, Michael “Big Mike” Lynch: Big Mike’s dad allegedly revealed his son’s Top 24 status weeks ago, thus breaking “Idol’s” rules of confidentiality, but the Florida native and personal trainer has a smooth voice and sweet disposition that’s simply undeniable. He is shown last week was shown listening in by cell phone as his wife gave birth to their daughter
Didi Benami: If she could keep the tears in check for more than five seconds, we might dig Didi the person as much as we like Didi the voice.
Katelyn Epperly: We didn’t get to see or hear too much of Katelyn, who auditioned in Chicago, but she proved her vocal prowes singing Colbie Callait’s “Bubbly.”
Casey James: Denver’s hottest auditioner is a no-brainer; the show’s been teasing viewers with his sexiness for weeks. And we know Kara’s a fan. His popularity was not affected by the fact that he spent some time behind bars.
Aaron Kelly: This 16-year-old countrified contender sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” during auditions. Prior to that, he won Disney World’s American Idol Experience.
Lee Dewyze: The season’s resident rocker may be this little-known Chicago auditioner, who showed Chris Daughtry-like promise with his version of the Fray’s “You Found Me.”
Todrick Hall: He showed exceptional freestyling skill during his Dallas audition, where he wowed the judges with an original song. But since that first appearance Todrick’s progress onstage and off has been fraught with drama. Group auditions didn’t exactly paint him in a positive light.
Jason Davis Millionaire Matchmaker: There’s a lot of snickering over the casting of Jason “Gummy Bear” Davis in Bravo’s “The Millionaire Matchmaker” airing tonight. “They must be desperate,” laughed one source. While his late grandfather, Marvin Davis, was a billionaire who once owned 20th Century Fox, the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Denver Broncos, Jason recently got an eviction notice on his $3,600-a-month LA apartment for nonpayment of rent. Asked for comment, Davis said, “Tell my fans and haters they are all welcome to join me at Capitol City Hollywood to view the episode.”
Tonight’s millionaire is Jason Davis, oil heir and brother to professional douche Brandon Davis. To remind you guys who this Davis Brandon is well he is the classy guy who labeled Lindsay Lohan a “firecrotch” in an infamous paparazzi video in the year 2006. Jason Davis has a lawsuite against his family for assaulting, and x17 cases of reported overdosed on drugs. He was even sent to rehab and has threatened to write a tell-all book about his family and other rich kids in L.A. But still Jason Davis makes in on this Millionaire Matchmaker.
US President Barack Obama spent 40 minutes in giving replies to the queries of members of public in a live interview on YouTube.
The questions were submitted during his State of the Union address last week so did not directly deal with plans for the US economy. But they covered a range of issues including the health reform bill. Obama gave written and video replies to the questions on YouTube. Obama said: “You know this was terrific. I hope we get a chance to do it on a more regular basis, because it gives me great access to all the people out there with wonderful ideas.” The president confessed his inability to bring great change in the last one year; however, he assured the public of fulfilling his commitments in the current year. On the fight with al Qaeda, he said: “We have to help work with the overwhelming majority of Muslims who reject senseless violence of this sort, and to work to provide different pathways and different alternatives for people expressing whatever policy differences that they may have. Mr Obama vowed action on education and climate change and promised he would close Guantanamo Bay.
The father of an Afghan-born airport shuttle driver accused of plotting an Al-Qaeda inspired bomb attack on New York City has been charged with conspiring to alter, destroy and conceal evidence in the case.
The indictment against Mohammed Wali Zazi was unsealed by Brooklyn federal prosecutors, hours before he appeared in US District Court in Denver and waived his right to contest his transfer to New York. Zazi, 53, pleaded not guilty in October to separate charges of lying to the FBI agents investigating his son, Najibullah Zazi, 24, last year in Denver. Both men are natives of Afghanistan. The father is a naturalized US citizen, the son a permanent legal resident. During a 15-minute court hearing in Denver, the elder Zazi was informed that the original charges against him had been dismissed to make way for the indictment returned in New York, and he agreed to be moved there without further proceedings. The elder Zazi is accused of conspiring to alter, destroy and conceal objects, including liquid chemicals, with the intent to impair the objects’ integrity and availability for use in an official proceeding. According to press reports, Najibullah Zazi’s uncle, Naqib Jaji, 38, also has been charged in the case and is reported to have pleaded not guilty to one felony count.
Jim Zorn Fired: The Washington Redskins fired head coach Jim Zorn on Monday, just hours after a 23-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers ended a season which yielded just four wins.
Zorn, who had one year left on his contract, was 12-20 during his two years with the Redskins.
“The status quo is not acceptable,” Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, who has been in the job for three weeks, said in a statement. “I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner.”
Zorn, 56, was expected to be replaced by former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan in the next few days, the Washington Post reported, citing team officials.

Michelle kwan, It was hardly a surprise when Michelle Kwan issued a statement Friday saying she would not compete in 2009-10, which means, of course, that her competitive figure skating days are over.
While I used this space to encourage Kwan to take another shot at the Olympics if she wanted, saying it would have no bearing on her legacy if she failed, I also wrote more than once it was unlikely that would happen.
Kwan2 Kwan, 29, will move on with her life by enrolling this fall at the renowned Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she will seek a master’s degree in international affairs.
That intellectual enhancement is fitting for a Chinese-American from southern California who competed on a global stage but whose vistas once were circumscribed by ice rinks and hotels in the many countries where she skated. Since she left competitive skating at the 2006 Turin Olympics, Kwan’s world view has dramatically widened through her role as a public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department and her studies at Denver University, where she received an undergraduate degree in international studies this May.
As Kwan seizes her future, the best way for me to assess her past is something I already wrote.
Given the uncertainty over her physical condition as she prepared for the 2006 Olympics, I had prepared a story summing up her career to appear either after the Winter Games skating ended or any time before that if circumstances dictated.
That is what happened, as pain in her groin forced Kwan to withdraw before the competition.
The story in question was published Feb. 13, 2006 on the front page of the Chicago Tribune. I re-read it after receiving Kwan’s statement from U.S Figure Skating and decided the old story would, once again, be the best valedictory for the sporting phase of her life. I can only hope it has stood the test of time as well as its subject did.
