Six NATO Service Members Died In Separate Attacks Across Afghanistan

Six NATO Service Members Died In Separate Attacks Across AfghanistanSix NATO service members died in separate attacks across Afghanistan, including a suicide car bomb that targeted an international military convey as it crossed a bridge in the Taliban-dominated south, the coalition said.
Nine Afghan civilians also died in four bombings in the south, officials said. The deaths came as American and Afghan forces worked to consolidate control over the former insurgent stronghold of Marjah in the southern province of Helmand, where allied forces are waging the largest combined offensive of the 8-year-old war.
Monday’s suicide attacker waited in a taxi for the NATO convoy to cross the bridge between Kandahar city and the airport, then detonated his explosives, tossing a military vehicle into a ravine, said Inhamullah Khan, an Afghan army official at the site.
A NATO spokesman, Maj. Marcin Walczak, confirmed one service member died in the suicide bombing. He did not provide the nationality or any other details.
In western Afghanistan, two other NATO troops died in a mortar or rocket attack, a military statement said, while another service member was killed by small arms fire in the south. One service member was killed by a roadside bomb in the south and another by rocket or mortar fire in the east. The statements gave no other details. Another official had previously said a police officer was among the dead, but Bashary said he was an office worker, not an officer.

Dubai’s police chief plans to seek the arrest of Israeli Netanyahu

Dubai's police chief plans to seek the arrest of Israeli NetanyahuDubai’s police chief plans to seek the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the head of Israel’s spy agency over the killing of a Hamas leader in the emirate.
Dahi Khalfan Tamim said that he would ask the Dubai prosecutor to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and the head of Mossad, a news channel reported. Tamim has said he is almost certain that Israeli agents were involved in the killing of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh at a Dubai hotel in January, calling for Mossad’s boss, Meir Dagan, to be arrested if it is proved responsible. Tamim said that Mossad had “insulted” Dubai and Western countries whose fraudulent passports were used by suspects in the assassination. Dubai has asked the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to look into prepaid cards issued by the Meta Financial Group’s MetaBank which the suspects used, a United Arab Emirates newspaper said. Citing an FBI source, The National newspaper said the investigation would look into any Israeli involvement in the killing. Thirteen of the 27 suspects used prepaid MasterCards issued by MetaBank, a regional American bank, to purchase plane tickets and book hotel rooms, the newspaper said, quoting Dubai police. The UAE, a US-allied Arab state that backs the Palestinian drive for an independent state and an end to Israeli occupation, has no diplomatic relations with Israel. But it has established low-level political and trade links in recent years, with some Israeli officials attending events in the Gulf Arab state. Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer competed in the Dubai Championships last month. Members of the hit squad used fraudulent passports from Britain, Ireland, Germany, France and Australia. Residents of Israel with the same names as the suspects, holding dual nationalities, have said their identities appear to have been stolen. The passport abuse has drawn criticism from the European Union, and some of the governments involved have summoned the Israeli ambassadors to their countries to protest.

Renee Walker 24

9d980f2be8ker 24 Renee Walker 24Renee Walker from 24, the FBI Agent is back with the 8th season of “24”, the thriller television series. I am glad to see that Annie Wersching is back as former FBI Agent Renee Walker on the TV Series “24″, Season 8.The red hair, blue eyes, and freckles. Her character seems to be in a very dark place now. It is unusual to see her act more ruthless than Jack. I will be closely watching how her relationship with Jack develops. It should be interesting.

Osama Mock-up Had Spanish Politician’s Features: FBI

21be635b30atures Osama Mock up Had Spanish Politician’s Features: FBIMADRID: A Spanish lawmaker was horrified to learn that the FBI used an online photograph of him to create an image showing what Osama bin Laden might look like today.

The image using Gaspar Llamazares’ photo appeared on a wanted poster updating the U.S. government’s 1998 photo of the al-Qaida leader.

FBI spokesman Ken Hoffman acknowledged to the Spanish newspaper that the agency used a picture of Llamazares taken from Google Images.

In a statement Saturday, the agency would say only that it was aware of similarities between their age-progressed image “and that of an existing photograph of a Spanish public official.”

“The forensic artist was unable to find suitable features among the reference photographs and obtained those features, in part, from a photograph he found on the Internet,” the FBI said in a statement to media.

The wanted poster appeared on the State Department Web site rewardsforjustice.net, listing a reward of up to $25 million. The FBI said the photo of bin Laden would be removed from the Web site.

Llamazares, former leader of the United Left party, was elected to Spain’s parliament in 2000. The photograph of him used to make the wanted poster originally appeared on posters for his 2004 general-election campaign.

Fort Hood Memorial Service, updates

Fort Hood Memorial Service, updatesFort Hood Memorial Service, Obama salutes Fort Hood victims, promises justice, Somberly reciting 13 names and 13 stories, US President Barack Obama saluted the Americans killed at Fort Hood, Texas Army post as heroes who died for their country — and promised a nation demanding answers that “the killer will be met with justice.”

Addressing a hushed crowd of thousands of soldiers Tuesday at  Fort Hood Memorial Service, the president spoke forcefully if indirectly of the alleged shooter’s motives in last week’s massacre. “It may be hard to comprehend the twisted logic that led to this tragedy,” Obama said. “But this much we do know: No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts.” The president’s remarks at a memorial service were personal, more about how the victims lived than how they died. The president spent more time meeting privately with the wounded and with loved ones of those killed than speaking in public. His tone stern, Obama pledged to the crowd that “the killer will be met with justice — in this world, and the next.”

Even as Obama honored the dead, there was fingerpointing back in Washington about what the military knew of Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, before the shooting rampage. Two US officials said a Washington-based joint terrorism task force overseen by the FBI was notified of communications between Hasan and a radical imam overseas and the information was turned over to a Defense Criminal Investigative Service employee assigned to the group. But a military official denied prior knowledge of the Army psychiatrist’s contacts with any Muslim extremists. All of the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the case on the record.

Obama, in his public remarks, spoke of the tranquility and liberty enjoyed by most Americans, and said the 13 fallen gave their lives for it. “That is their legacy,” he said. As much as the president made the moment about the gunman’s victims, the ceremony also was about him. Presidents inevitably must take the lead in times of tragedy, and this was Obama’s moment to offer himself as consoler in chief. Obama and first lady Michelle Obama devoted considerable time to three private meetings with those affected by the shooting rampage, meeting first with families of those killed, then with some of those wounded and their families, and later with those still hospitalized. more updates soon about Fort Hood Memorial Service

FBI to Visit India over Militants’ Cases

NEW DELHI: US FBI officials will visit India to share information on two men being held in Chicago for alleged links to last year’s Mumbai attacks, reports said Monday.
FBI to Visit India over Militants’ Cases
India claims David Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, both in US custody, were associated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit, blamed for the deadly attacks in India’s financial capital, which left 166 people dead.

The Indian Express newspaper quoted Indian National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan as saying US President Barack Obama had taken an interest in the case and “a high-level team will be in Delhi soon with all the data collected and share it with us.” Narayanan said the Federal Bureau of Investigation team could arrive in India within a week.

Headley, a Pakistani-born American, and Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, were arrested in October, accused of plotting attacks in India and Denmark. Indian media, citing officials, recently said Headley intended to strike two elite boarding schools and a military academy in India and that he had befriended prominent people from Bollywood.
The Times of India quoted Indian Home Secretary G.K. Pillai as saying: “We hope to have access once both (Headley and Rana) are indicted,” after investigations into their activities are completed within a month. Indian investigators have already visited the US but were not allowed to interview the suspects.

Kinsman, IL : Chicago FBI Raids Halal Slaughterhouse

FBI Raids Halal SlaughterhouseNear, IL - Federal agents conducted a raid on Sunday afternoon in a goat near a factory for the manufacture of meat Morris, Illinois. A covert operation led by the FBI in Chicago, and the Feds are being very silent about what they are and even what they were there.

The spokesman Ross Rice confirms the agents were in 6260 Kinsman Road, in Kinsman, Illinois. He called on business and management of the First World. Rice will not say why agents were there, but said that no one was detained.

He said the FBI had launched the attack Sunday morning and ended late in the afternoon. Were in the plant about nine hours total.

According to sources, the factory provides goats, beef and lamb prepared in the halal way and in accordance with Muslim custom.

The government workers inside First World Management meat packing plant in Kinsman Monday wouldn’t say why they were there or why scores of FBI agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were there Sunday.

The trouble is the FBI isn’t saying much about what happened at this rural Grundy County plant. A spokesman confirms that the plant, which has a Muslim prayer room, was raided as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Several witnesses reported that the Grundy County Sheriff’s office was involved, as well, saying sheriff dept. vehicles were visible at the scene. The Sheriff’s department denies it was present.

When asked if the raid had something to do with undocumented aliens, the person wouldn’t say. A neighbor suggested that undocumented immigrants live in a trailer behind the facility and work there.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the agency assisted in the raid, but had no further comment. According to sources, many of the FBI and ICE agents were armed.

Several USDA criminal investigators were on site at the plant on Monday, but they would not comment on the situation.

One man who was talking about the raid was Jim Cavaness. He’s a handyman who occasionally works at the plant where goats, sheep and cows are slaughtered. On Sunday, he witnessed the raid and says he was questioned by FBI agents.

Cavaness says the FBI asked him if he had seen anything unusual at the plant. He says he’s never seen anything unusual, but, he says, judging by the amount of firepower on the scene, the FBI wasn’t just working an immigration case.

“Way too much overkill for immigration,” Cavaness said.

Neighbors who saw the raid on Sunday told CBS 2 it was a huge operation, involving more than 100 agents, police officers and even what one believed to be National Guard troops.

Sources say during the raid, the driveway was filled with more than 50 government vehicles. There was a helicopter flying overhead and a command center set up. On top of it were government sharpshooters with rifles at the ready.

George Jackson III is an attorney hired by one of the plant operators, Dr. Syed Hamid. Jackson and Dr. Hamid spoke briefly while on their way to a meeting with the federal prosecutor Monday.

Jackson says it’s too early to say why there was such a huge show of force at the plant.

“Obviously, it was more than what was needed here, but why they felt the need to come forward with that much manpower allegedly, it’s too early to say,” Jackson said.

Jackson said federal agents confiscated the company’s computers, effectively shutting down the business. Dr. Hamid chose not to weigh in Monday.

“I don’t want to comment at this point,” Dr. Hamid said.

Yale Student body found

Yale Student body foundYale Student body found, Reports that Annie Le’s MED ’13 body was recovered from the lab where she was last seen Tuesday are untrue, law enforcement officials said Saturday.
At a press conference outside Woodbridge Hall this evening, officials from the University and law enforcement agencies also confirmed that evidence had been retrieved from the research facility at 10 Amistad St., but said that it had not yet been tied to Le. A New Haven Police Department official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, said earlier today that bloody clothes and other items had been retrieved from a ceiling in the building, and two Yale Police Department officers said that 10 Amistad St. is now the site of a crime scene.

Still, authorities at the press conference said there was no evidence of foul play in Le’s disappearance.

“We are not in the position today to conclude whether this is a missing person case, or whether criminality is involved,” FBI Special Agent Kim Mertz said. “We have conducted numerous interviews, and I can assure you no lead is going uncovered.”

Media reports emerged on Saturday afternoon that Le’s body had been found inside the Amistad Street building. Those reports were quickly dismissed.

“I will categorically say a body has not been found,” Mertz said

Le started her Tuesday morning working in the Sterling Hall of Medicine, where her lab was located, Yale Vice President and Secretary Linda Lorimer said. Le left the lab around 10 a.m. to walk to 10 Amistad St. three blocks away, where she frequently went to conduct experiments, Lorimer said. A surveillance photograph distributed by the YPD shows Le entering the building at 10 Amistad St. on Tuesday morning. University officials have yet to locate Le exiting the building.

Mertz said Saturday that authorities have spoken to “numerous people” who saw Le inside the facility at 10 Amistad St. but declined to give any further details.

A fire alarm that sounded in the Amistad Street facility at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday is thought to have been a false alarm, Mertz said. Someone working in the lab produced steam that tripped the alarm, she said.

Yale officials have said it could be difficult to pick out Le, who is 4-feet-11-inches and weighs some 90 pounds, in the footage of the subsequent evacuation. Some officials have suggested that Le may have changed into a lab coat while in the building, which would make it even harder to identify her.

Le, who was scheduled to be married on Sunday, left her purse containing her cell phone, credit cards and money in her office in Sterling, Lorimer said. Her wedding has since been canceled.

Le’s family and fiance, Columbia University graduate student Jonathan Widawsky, are cooperating with the investigation. Officials asked that the media respect the family’s privacy.

Le was last seen wearing a knee-length brown skirt, a bright green short-sleeved T-shirt, brown shoes and a brown necklace, the YPD said. She does not have access to a car.

As part of that investigation, FBI agents undertook several complete sweeps of 10 Amistad St., bringing in bloodhounds and even combing through trash in a dumpster outside the building. They searched Le’s apartment at 188 Lawrence St. as well as her computer and phone for clues. As the search perimeter expanded, agents also searched medical school buildings in the surrounding area.

Anyone with information pertaining to Le’s disappearance is asked to call the FBI tip line at 1-877-503-1950.
