Titanic in 3D

Titanic in 3DLOS ANGELES: James Cameron confirmed plans to release his record breaking “Titanic” in 3D.

3D has become so popular that fans can now even say that they’ve seen the Titanic sink in 3D. Hollywood.com reports that director James Cameron has confirmed earlier rumors that the record breaking 1997 Oscar winning film is all set to sail into theatres for a second time in 3D format.

Although Cameron can confirm the news, fans shouldn’t expect the film to be re-released until 2012. Cameron has chosen this year in order to honor the 100 year anniversary of the ship’s sinking in 1912.

Furthermore, the director also confirms plans to re-release his latest film Avatar by the end of the year. The film was recently shut out of IMAX theatres in order to make room for the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Some believe that nearly a hundred million more dollars could have been made if the film remained in theatres. In order to re-attract audiences, the new version will likely include never before seen footage.

Avatar recently became the biggest-selling film in history when it surpassed the previous record held by Titanic.

Akon To Sing In Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Ra One

Akon To Sing In Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Ra OneMUMBAI INDIA: Singer Akon got a traditional Indian welcome from Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor during a press meet in Mumbai.

The Smack That singer is on a three-day visit to Mumbai to compose and record a song for Shah Rukh’s latest movie Ra. One with composer duo Vishal-Shekar.

The movie is being directed by Anubhav Sinha. In fact, it was Sinha’s idea to rope in Akon for the film, whose title sounds similar to that of Mani Ratnam’s film Raavan starring Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya.

When asked about this, Shah Rukh said both the films are extremely different. “Raavan is a modern version of a mythology while ours is a superhero film,” he added.

Shah Rukh did not wanted to discuss the movie as it is in the initial stages. But he did add that, ‘It is a genre that has not been tried before. Red Chillies and my team would like to try and I hope we succeed. I am doing this film for my kids and if you guys have kids, they will like it too,” he said.

Irene Kng

Irene Kng, Jack Neo’s wife, Madam Irene Kng, 46, told Zaobao that the whole family has moved out of their Pasir Ris semi-detached home and is staying temporarily at another place, leaving the maid to look after their home. She would not disclose details of her current location.ac46d10475icture Irene Kng

News of Neo’s affair with a 22-year-old Wendy Chong first broke on Saturday in the Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao after the mistress showed up at Neo’s house on Friday, demanding to see his wife. All three later headed to Changi Airport’s Crowne Plaza Hotel for a talk. The meeting reportedly stretched over four hours. Chong’s father and sister later joined the group, as did Neo’s pastor, church friend and manager.

Since then, reporters have been staking outside Neo’s house, upsetting neighbours who called the police to chase the media pack away.

Madam Kng has remained calm in the face of the scandal, telling Zaobao that the four children will attend school as usual on Monday. ‘This is the ad-ults’ business. The children must carry on with their lives,’ she said.

Foreign Minister George Yeo, who is acquainted with Neo, has also called for support for the film director’s family.

In a blog entry, Mr Yeo revealed that before the affair surfaced in the press, Neo had personally called him to inform him about it. The minister added that Madam Kng was with Neo at the time of the phone call, and he had asked to speak with her.

Mr Yeo also called on the public to be supportive of the Neo family, so that they can get through this difficult period.

Deepika Padukone, I forget all else in love

MUMBAI : Bollywood’s ‘sunshine girl’ Deepika Padukone has every reason to celebrate. With her career going great guns and some exciting films in her kitty, the leggy beauty is now looking to consolidate her position in B-Town.

“I’ve always been driven by work and variety attracts me,” confesses Deepika.

“I’ve never been afraid of doing something just because it’s different. In fact, each role that I have portrayed on screen so far has been in stark contrast from the other,” she avers.
b13a1a4502dukone Deepika Padukone, I forget all else in love
For someone who made news right from her much-talked about Bollywood launchpad opposite Shah Rukh Khan (in Om Shanti Om), Deepika continues to make for some good headlines. Her current offering (Karthik Calling Karthik) too made news much before it hit the theatres.

Movie buffs went full throttle about the unusual pairing between her and leading man Farhan Akhtar, some to the extent of even romantically linking the two together. “Who defines what’s usual and unusual? I don’t see how Farhan and I are any different from the other on-screen jodis in terms of complimenting each other.

If two actors are cast opposite one another it’s because they suit their particular roles and make a good on-screen pair. Initially, I was intimidated by Farhan. But then I saw he was so chilled out and just like the other leading men I’ve worked with —fun and focused.”

Deepika’s portrayal as the new age girl in many flicks has endeared her to the audience. Her last big screen outing, Love Aaj Kal struck BO gold and redefined Bollywood romance. “I always knew that the movie will have an impact on the audience,” says Deepika. Speaking on how the film still has an impact on her, Deepika says, “In real life too, I’m a lot like Meera, I’m always surrounded by my friends. And I think I see relationships just the way Meera does. See, when in a romantic relationship everything (else) takes a backseat. In our lives, there are times when you realise that though you love a certain person a lot, you can’t live with him. Nothing in life makes sense. Like me, a lot of young people have been able to relate to all that Meera went through in LAK quite a bit and may have experienced a lot of those emotions/experiences,” she confesses.

From playing independent and outgoing characters, Deepika is now switching gears to period films and comedy — something she has never done before. “I’m playing Kaplana Dutta in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelenge Jee Jaan Se. It’s a completely different world and at the same time a very important part of history. It’s a great responsibility for someone like me and I have to do justice to the character,” quips the actor.

Sajid Khan’s Houseful is already creating a buzz (thanks to the sizzling bikini bod that Deepika flaunts) and she’s excited too. “Comedy is the toughest thing to do. Especially Sajid’s brand of comedy where you have a tough time enacting a scene because you just can’t control your laughter,” she says with palpable excitement.

Considering that she’s been part of many hit films, does she see her paycheque looking better? “To a large extent, yes. But having said that, I would also like to clarify that my price never defines the kind of work I do.” And with many Best Actor (female) nominations coming her way, does she hope to walk away with an award this year? “Awards are important. They mean recognition and appreciation of the hard work you’ve done. If I win then well, but if I don’t then I’m not going to sit and sulk. I’ll be back with better films the following year,” she ends on a positive note.

Antoine Fuqua Returns With Another Cop Drama

Antoine Fuqua Returns With Another Cop DramaNEW YORK: After the success of ‘Training Day’ in 2001, director Antoine Fuqua didn’t think he’d ever do another movie about corrupt cops until he read the script for ‘Brooklyn’s Finest.’

“For me the movie is the story of Job, are there any good men left?” said Fuqua. “And the finest will be standing at the end of the movie, which you’ll find out which guy is actually standing. They’re all good guys in some way to do that job, but they make some bad choices sometimes, based on the pressure they’re under.”

Ethan Hawke, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in ‘Training Day,’ plays a task force officer who doesn’t have enough money to care for his growing family. Richard Gere plays a senior cop on the verge of retirement who doesn’t want to offend anyone or take any risks. And Don Cheadle plays an undercover narcotics officer who’s too close to his drug world contact, played by Wesley Snipes.

“You can relate to where he’s at in his life right now,” Fuqua said he told Snipes about the role of Caz, Snipe’s first major feature film role since his tax troubles surfaced in 2006. “And he said, ‘Yeah, you’re right.’ I said, ‘I just want some truth. I want the truth for how you feel right now in your life. And this is that guy.’ And so I took a big chance because, you know, the bond companies and everyone was nervous about certain things, and I just said I can’t see anybody else. I don’t even know if I would do the movie if I can’t get the right guys in each role.”

It’s the performance of those guys that make the film, which weaves together their three stories throughout until they explode in a powerful climax. But is the title meant to be ironic?

“I found something fine in each one of them,” said Fuqua. “But I think the writer, Michael Martin, sort of ripped that right out of the headlines, you know. For me the movie is the story of Job, are there any good men left? And the finest will be standing at the end of the movie, which you’ll find out which guy is actually standing. They’re all good guys in some way to do that job, but they make some bad choices sometimes, based on the pressure they’re under.”

Eri Yoshida

Eri Yoshida, Eighteen-year-old knuckleballer Eri Yoshida, the first woman drafted by a Japanese team, was in Fort Myers today to meet the man who inspired her to pitch.
c84eeef92foshida Eri Yoshida
Back in November 2008, Tim Wakefield said he hoped to see her pitch one day. Today, after Yoshida watched his side session, he returned the favour:

She spun a couple, but for the most part, it was very good. She was able to take the spin out of a lot of them and they had quite a lot of movement on them. … I had seen film of her and I was pretty impressed at the film. But to see her in person and to actually see her throw, I was very impressed with how she threw and the knowledge she had on the knuckleball, because she told me she was self-taught. This is the first time she’s actually ever had coaching throwing a knuckleball. I kind of know where she’s at, because I was there when I first started throwing — nobody knew what to do.
