Hindus and Jews praise Madonna for Roma comments

Madonna105 250x300 Hindus and Jews praise Madonna for Roma comments Hindus and Jews have applauded Queen of Pop Madonna who was booed and jeered by thousands of fans at a show in Romania on Aug 26, 09, after she protested the treatment of Roma gypsies in the country onstage.

Cheers gave way to jeers, when the ’Material Girl’ hitmaker paused midway before a sell-out crowd of about 60,000 in Bucharest during her song, part of her ongoing ‘Sticky and Sweet’ world tour, and touched on the plight of Roma people, showing the deeply entrenched prejudice against Roma in Europe, reports the Daily Express.

She said: “I”ve never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here. But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. It makes me very sad. Everyone must be treated the same, don”t forget that.”

However, Hindu and Jewish leaders in her native America have come out in support of the singer.

In a joint statement, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich have praised Madonna for at least trying to get a message across.

It reads, “Romania and Europe should apologise for the blatant show of prejudice shown towards Roma brothers and sisters when Madonna spoke against Roma discrimination during her concert in Bucharest.

“The alarming condition of Roma people is a social blight for Europe and the rest of the world as these people face social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, language barriers, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalisation, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse and racist slogans. ”

“It’’s like an undeclared apartheid… The Roma issue should be one of the highest priorities of the human rights agenda of Europe and (the) world,” they added.

Zed and Rabbi Freirich have urged other Hollywood and entertainment celebrities of the world not to stay apathetic and silent spectators and use their status to highlight the apartheid conditions faced by about 15-million Roma people of Europe.

Linda Bollea sues Hulk Hogan over Harley bike, settlement dues

Linda BolleaActor and retired professional wrestler Hulk Hogan’s ex-wife Linda Bollea has sued him for not releasing her Harley Davidson motorcycle and for not paying her 225,000 dollars as promised.

Bollea filed a motion against Hogan in the Pinellas County Superior Court in Florida on August 25 for the “Enforcement of the Confidential Marital Settlement”, after he failed to fulfil the promised settlement.

And now she is not only demanding her money and motorcycle, but also wants him to cover all the transport and attorney fees she has incurred, and if he still refuses to comply, she has filed a request to have him “incarcerated”.

According to the documents, their confidential marital settlement also involves her getting “exclusive possession and ownership of her Mercedes Benz, Cadillac Escalade, Corvette and Rolls Royce”.

“We are proceeding against the Hulk with enforcement and contempt proceedings to make him comply with the marital settlement, whether he likes the agreement or not, and regardless of his stalls, emotional issues and games,” Fox News quoted Bollea’s attorney Ray Rafool as saying.

A rep for Hogan has said that the “Hogan Knows Best” star has done no wrong and is “absolutely complying with the terms of the marital settlement agreement”.

“Linda will receive everything she is entitled to under the agreement as soon as it is available to give to her,” the rep added.

Kirsten Dunst’s ‘one-night stand’ with toyboy

kristen dunstActress Kirsten Dunst recently had a one-night stand with a 22-year-old guy, sources say.

“Kirsten met a cute, young, 22 year-old guy at a bar in Oxford, Mississippi and they partied together and had a hot little hookup,” Fox News quoted a source as saying.

However, the ‘Spider Man‘ star, 27, is apparently in no mood to follow it up.

The insider added: “She invited him back to her hotel and even took him out for breakfast in the morning. She was having a good time, and she likes younger guys. But the two have no plans to see each other again.”

Dunst also threw a party recently for her brother, Christian, at Hollywood hotspot Madame Royale, where a plenty of his young male friends had gathered.

The source said: “She came alone without a date and Christian brought several of his buddies. Kirsten and Christan are very close, and they get along with each other’’s friends.

“Everyone was drinking vodka and partying at their table. Kirsten looked like she was having a great night, laughing and dancing with all the young dudes.”

Also, she reportedly went on a tour to Memphis, Tennessee and Mississippi, where “she managed to squeeze in a little party time with some college kids on her travels.”

The Who guitarist Pete Townshend writes musical ‘Floss’

Guitarist Pete Townshend from rock band The Who has written a musical called Floss, which will open in New York in 2011.

The rock opera apparently derives the style from their earlier work Tommy and Quadrophenia.

The 64-year-old has revealed that his new work deals with issues affecting a man of his age and it will express his anger in true rock fashion.

“As a 19-year-old with My Generation, I wrote the most explicitly ageist song in rock. At 64, I now want to take on ageing and mortality, using the powerfully angry context of rock ”n” roll,” The Sun quoted him as saying.

The story revolves around pub rocker Walter who retires early in his life after his song gets used on a car advert earning him a fortune.

However, he returns to music 15 years later but his relationship with wife Floss falters.

Arena dates will follow the opening in New York.
