Raja urges Younis Khan to work on his attitude

Raja urges Younis Khan to work on his attitudePakistan former Test player Rameez Raja has urged the senior batsman Younis Khan to work on his attitude after the recent incident when former captain messed up with the spectators during a Karachi Champions League.

“Once Younus decided to play he should have been mentally prepared to face all types of situation because it is not uncommon in Pakistan for spectators to try to mob or pester players during matches at the club level,” he told reporters in Dubai.

Cricdb reported that Younis beaten up a fan after an altercation with spectators during a Club’s Champions League match organised by former captain Rashid Latif at Korangi Stadium in Karachi last Thursday night. Raja said such things are expected to happen when you play in a local tournament, so senior players should avoid playing those.

“It was not a pretty sight to see Younus forcibly dragging the young fellow into the dressing room. I don’t know why Younis reacted like this or what happened later in the dressing room but there is no doubt that Younis should have shown restraint and he seriously needs to change his attitude and behavior,” said Raja – who who turned to commentator.

Psychologist Maqbool Babri, who counseled Pakistani cricketers in the recent past, said Younis’ reaction was a result of the frustration and anger he was feeling inside. “The incident shows how frustrated Younis is at the moment with his cricket career and as a person. He is a top class player and a very nice individual I know since I have had counseling sessions with him but the last few months have been tough on him,” he said.

Sri Lankan Police Raid Defeated Candidate Office

COLOMBO: Police raided the office of Sri Lanka’s defeated presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka and arrested 15 of his workers Friday, his lawyer said, after he disputed this week’s election result and the government alleged he was planning a coup.

The government has also claimed that Fonseka, a former army chief and the opposition’s main candidate in the vote, was planning to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Police commandos raided Fonseka’s office in the capital Colombo, saying they were looking for army deserters, said Mano Ganeshan, an opposition lawmaker.

A government spokesman confirmed the report, but did not give details.

A press photographer saw members of the police Special Task Force deployed near the office.

Fonseka was at his house elsewhere in Colombo at the time of the raid, Ganeshan said.

Fifteen ex-military personnel who worked at the office were detained, said Shiral Laktilaka, Fonseka’s lawyer.

Fonseka led the government’s military offensive that defeated the Tamil Tigers in May, ending a 25-year separatist rebellion, but then resigned as army chief and joined the political opposition.

He was beaten in Tuesday’s bitterly contested presidential poll by Rajapaksa, but has disputed the official result and plans to challenge it in court. On Thursday, he alleged the government stole more than 1 million of his votes during the tallying process.

The government has denied Fonseka’s allegation, and in turn accused him of wanting to organize a coup and of being involved in an alleged attempt on Rajapaksa’s life.

Following his defeat in the presidential poll, Fonseka said the government arrested some of his associates and removed his 80-strong state-provided security force, a move he says has put his life in danger.

He also said authorities put his name on the list of people who cannot leave the country, a charge denied by the government.

Separately, detectives questioned an editor of a pro-opposition newspaper, said opposition lawmaker Vijitha Herath.

Chandana Sirimalwatte of the Lanka newspaper was asked to report to the Criminal Investigations Department on Friday, Herath said, adding that officials were preparing to obtain an order from the government that can allow for a 90-day detention under the country’s wartime emergency laws.

Herath said he does not know why the editor was summoned for questioning. However, the newspaper backed Fonseka in the election and has in the past reported alleged government corruption.

Sri Lanka Elect to Field Against India

4bdb7d1416india Sri Lanka Elect to Field Against IndiaNEW DELHI: Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in the second One-dayer of the Bangladesh
Sri Lankan team Tri-series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Tuesday.

Watch Live Cricket

Sri Lanka, would be relying heavily on their batting, especially on Upul Tharanga and captain Kumar Sangakkara to come good in the absence of in-form Sri Lankan opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan, who suffered a groin injury during the tournament opener against hosts Bangladesh on Monday.

India will be without batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar, who has been rested for the one-dayers, but the return of Yuvraj Singh, who was sidelined due to a finger injury, will strengthen the already formidable Indian middle order.

The bowling department will also be strengthened by the return of pacer S Sreesanth, who has fully recovered from swine flu he suffered during the Sri Lanka series.

With the Lankans fielding a second string side for the tournament, 20-year-old batsman Lahiru Thirimanne gets his maiden international cap.

Sri Lanka’s inexperience is most pronounced in its bowling front with Nuwan Kulasekara being the most capped player with 60-odd ODIs. He will be sharing the new ball with rookie Chanaka Welegedara and Suranga Lakmal.

Each team will play four league matches before the top two qualify for the final on January 13.

Squads:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh, Sudeep Tyagi, Dinesh Karthik, S Sreesanth, Ashok Dinda, Amit Mishra.

Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara (Capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Thilina Kandamby, Lahiru Thirimanne, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, Thissara Perera, Malinga Bandara, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Suraj Randiv, Suranga Lakmal, Chanaka Welegedara
