Pakistan former Test player Rameez Raja has urged the senior batsman Younis Khan to work on his attitude after the recent incident when former captain messed up with the spectators during a Karachi Champions League.
“Once Younus decided to play he should have been mentally prepared to face all types of situation because it is not uncommon in Pakistan for spectators to try to mob or pester players during matches at the club level,” he told reporters in Dubai.
Cricdb reported that Younis beaten up a fan after an altercation with spectators during a Club’s Champions League match organised by former captain Rashid Latif at Korangi Stadium in Karachi last Thursday night. Raja said such things are expected to happen when you play in a local tournament, so senior players should avoid playing those.
“It was not a pretty sight to see Younus forcibly dragging the young fellow into the dressing room. I don’t know why Younis reacted like this or what happened later in the dressing room but there is no doubt that Younis should have shown restraint and he seriously needs to change his attitude and behavior,” said Raja – who who turned to commentator.
Psychologist Maqbool Babri, who counseled Pakistani cricketers in the recent past, said Younis’ reaction was a result of the frustration and anger he was feeling inside. “The incident shows how frustrated Younis is at the moment with his cricket career and as a person. He is a top class player and a very nice individual I know since I have had counseling sessions with him but the last few months have been tough on him,” he said.
