WASHINGTON: The United States is looking forward to a stable relationship between India and Pakistan, especially as they resume peace talks next week, Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Robert Blake said.
He said this while talking about the regional dynamics between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in a speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
Blake said Pakistan, India and the US all face the common threat of terrorism. He said, “While we would like to see India and Pakistan reach a stable relationship, they will do so on their own terms at the appropriate time.”
The foreign secretaries of the two countries are all set to resume bilateral talks on February 25 in New Delhi. The composite dialogue and peace process came to a halt in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Earlier this week, the State Department welcomed the political commitment of India and Pakistan to resume peace talks.

MUMBAI: Two new franchises will be included in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after which the number of teams will be ten. Pakistani cricketers can also be entitled for participation in the event.
IPL commissioner Lalith Modi said that further two teams would take part in the next season of the event whereas Pakistanis would also be seen in action.
Talking with Geo News, Modi said that the two new teams would join the competition from the 2011 season, increasing the number of franchises to 10.
Lalit Modi said 12 cities were in contention, including four which will host games during the 2010 season.
Modi said tenders for the franchises could be collected from the Board of Control for India or IPL from 21 February and that bids would be opened on 8 March in Mumbai.
The cities in the frame are Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Dharamsala, Indore, Cuttack, Gwalior and Visakapatnam.
But Modi also indicated that Rajkot, Pune, Vadodara and Kochi, which are in the process of building stadiums, might bid for teams.
The new team franchises will be granted access to venues hosting matches during the 2010 IPL in order to familiarise themselves.
The 2010 IPL, which is the third edition of the 20-over tournament, begins on 12 March.

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said it was time to draw a line under his side’s disastrous recent tour of Australia – in which his team lost three Tests, five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 International (T20I) against the hosts.
Pakistan now arrived in Dubai to face England on Friday and Saturday in the T20I. “We didn’t play well but it’s history now,” said Malik, who has taken over the T20I captaincy from Shahid Afridi, suspended from Friday’s match as he serves the second game of a two-match ban for ball tampering.
“When you lose things always come up but you always learn from your mistakes, we’ve had meetings and talked about what we did in Australia and we’ve learnt from our mistakes.”
Malik said that prior to travelling with the squad he appeared before a committee set up in Pakistan to examine why the side failed on its recent tour. “I’ve answered all those questions,” he said. “I went to the six-member committee yesterday (on Saturday) and I gave them what I had to.”
“Whatever’s happened is for the betterment of Pakistan cricket and I’m sure it will help the Pakistan team and players. But that is history now, we’re looking forward to these two matches and I just want to concentrate on my cricket now,” he added.

Tito Jackson’s son said that his uncle was looking forward to the London concerts and planning a movie career ahead.
