Ohio State Shooting, Ohio State University Shooting

Ohio State University says a worker suspected in a deadly campus shooting has died.

A new Ohio State University custodial employee who received a bad job evaluation shot two co-workers in a campus-maintenance building, killing one of them, and then fatally shot himself, officials said Tuesday.

No students were hurt and classes went on as scheduled.

The shooting was first reported at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Brown, 51 years old, was pronounced dead at Ohio State University Medical Center several hours later, Mr. Denton said.

One of the victims, building-services manager Larry Wallington, 48, died at the scene. The other victim, operations-shift leader Henry Butler, 60, was in stable condition at Ohio University Medical Center, officials said.

Health Care Bill, Health Care Vote Result

Health Care Bill, Health Care Vote Result, US House approves sweeping health care overhaul:-

Health Care Bill, Health Care Vote ResultWASHINGTON: The US House of Representatives has approved the broadest US health care overhaul in a half-century, handing President Barack Obama a major victory on his top domestic priority.

Obama hailed the “historic vote” and said he was sure of signing the ambitious overhaul in 2009.

“Tonight, in an historic vote, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would finally make real the promise of quality, affordable health care for the American people,” Obama said in a statement savoring the political triumph.

“The United States Senate must follow suit and pass its version of the legislation. I am absolutely confident it will, and I look forward to signing comprehensive health insurance reform into law by the end of the year,” he said.

After hours of bitter debate and an appeal from Obama to “answer the call of history,” lawmakers voted late Saturday 220-215 for a 10-year, trillion-dollar plan to extend health coverage to some 36 million Americans who lack it now.Facts: Health bill

The chamber’s Democrats erupted in loud cheers and triumphant applause the moment the bill had the 218 votes needed for passage, about 11:07 pm (0407 GMT), a happy din that grew deafening when a gavel made it official.

The president had paid a rare visit to Congress to lobby for unity among his Democratic allies and reinforced it with a public speech, but 39 still joined 176 of the chamber’s Republicans in opposition to the proposal.

One Republican broke ranks, nominally fulfilling, in the barest terms, Obama’s vow to secure bipartisan support.

“This is our moment to deliver. I urge members of congress to rise to this moment, answer the call of history and vote yes for health insurance reform for America,” Obama said in the White House’s Rose Garden hours before the vote.

The fight to remake health care in the world’s richest country shifted to the US Senate, where its fate remained unclear amid a intra-party dispute among Democrats anchored on what role the US government should play.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, struggling to pull together the 60 votes needed to ensure passage, has hinted that the chamber may not act until next year.

That would put the issue front-and-center in the 2010 mid-term elections, when one third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives, and many US governorships are up for grabs.

If, as expected, the two chambers pass rival versions of health care legislation, they will need to thrash out a compromise version and approve it in order to send it to Obama to sign into law.

Final House passage came after a flurry of votes, including a 240-194 vote to sharply tighten restrictions on government monies paying for abortions, seen as critical to cementing support from a group of anti-abortion Democrats.

The House then voted 176-258 to defeat the Republican alternative to the overall plan — with one lone Republican, Representative Timothy Johnson of Illinois, joining the Democrats in opposition.

The United States is the only industrialized democracy that does not ensure that all of its citizens have health care coverage, with an estimated 36 million Americans uninsured.

And Washington spends vastly more on health care — both per person and as a share of national income as measured by Gross Domestic Product — than other industrialized democracies, but with no meaningful edge in quality of care, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The bill would create a government-backed insurance plan, popularly known as a “public option,” to compete with private firms and would end denial of coverage based on preexisting medical problems.

Under the White House-backed bill, Americans would have to buy insurance and most employers would have to offer coverage to their workers — though some small businesses would be exempt and the government would offer subsidies.

Allama Iqbal Day

Allama Iqbal DayLahore, Pakistan News : 132nd birth anniversary of poet-philosopher Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal will be celebrated here on Monday. Various organisations have organised functions to mark the day.

On the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the people to resolve on the birth anniversary of the poet philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal to rebuild Pakistan by drawing inspiration from his vision.

“It was unfortunate that in the country envisioned by Iqbal, Islam has been ruthlessly exploited by extremists and militants to foist their narrow agendas on the people in the name of religion”.

“The extremists and militants have rejected the Constitution, the Federation and institutions of democracy only to capture power in the name of religion. This cannot be allowed; it will not be”, the President said in his message on the occasion of Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary.

He said the need for understanding Iqbal’s concept of the message of Islam and the need for forward movement in human thought was never as great as it is today.

The President said Allama Iqbal believed that nothing remained static and stationary. “He believed in and advocated forward movement in human thought,” he said, adding, “We need to encourage forward movement in philosophical thought instead of abandoning the interpretation of Islamic teachings to any individual or group”.

“Forward movement in human thought and interpretation is most relevant in the present day as extremists and militants selectively quoted scriptures and verses to advance their own political agenda behind the cloak of religion”, he added.

The Sahar Foundation has initiated the “Farogh-i-Fikr-i-Iqbal” campaign. Speech and the painting contests have been organised for the students on the occasion.

Meanwhile, in his message on Iqbal Day, Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, said that Allama Iqbal was a great poet and philosopher of not only the sub-continent but also the Muslim Ummah.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan still at ICU, off ventilator

Major Nidal Malik Hasan still at ICU, off ventilatorMajor Nidal Malik Hasan still at ICU, off ventilator, WASHINGTON: Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of a shooting spree that killed 13 people, remains in an intensive care unit at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and is no longer on a ventilator, said Colonel John Rossi, deputy commander at Fort Hood, Texas, at a news conference.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, the lead agency investigating the shooting, said all evidence gathered so far points toward Hasan allegedly acting alone.

“At this time, we have one alleged suspect connected to this mass shooting,” said Chris Grey, a spokesman for the division. “We have not established a motive for the shootings at this time.”

The shooting at the largest military base in the U.S. left another 30 wounded, officials said. The carnage could have been worse as the suspect stormed a crowded waiting room, reloading and firing more than 100 rounds from a semi-automatic machine pistol with an extended magazine, officials also said.

The investigation, which is led by a joint task force that includes local police as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, involves more than 170 interviews of witnesses and victims, Grey said.

Hasan, whose deployment date was set for “late November to Afghanistan,” and 17 others remain hospitalized, Rossi said. “Ten of those, including the suspect, are in ICU,” he said.

El Tour De Tucson 2009

El Tour De Tucson 2009El Tour De Tucson 2009, El Tour de Tucson is one of the largest road bicycling events in the United States. The El Tour de Tucson was started in 1983 by cyclist Richard DeBernardis, current president of the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America. The ride takes place every November in Tucson, Arizona. The first El Tour attracted nearly 185 riders while in recent years between 7,000 and 10,000 cyclists will attend. Because the Tour is so big, people in the bike industry are exposed to Tucson, and they know it’s a good place to ride. El Tour de Tucson helps put Tucson on the cycling map. Bicycling Magazine gives three initial reasons for ranking Tucson as the second-best place among cities its size for riding a bicycle: “Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine.

There are many divisions in the race, you can choose to cycle 109, 80, 67, or 35 miles, plus a 4-mile and 1/4 mile Kids & Family Fun Ride. The event offers fun and cycling tests for all levels of riders. The route weaves through scenic Tucson, which is surrounded by 5 mountain ranges, three of which rise over 9,000 feet. The courses range from rolling to moderately hilly, with the 35 mile route being fairly flat and the perfect course for beginners.

El Tour de Tucson cyclists raise funds for Tu Nidito Children & Family Services, the American Parkinson Disease Association, Water For People, Ben’s Bells Project, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Diamond Children’s Medical Center, other Perimeter Bicycling charities and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the children and families at Tu Nidito, El Tour is much more than a ride. “El Tour is our livelihood,” said Executive Director Liz McCusker.[4] More than 8,000 cyclists participated in the 2008 El Tour de Tucson, raising more than $200,000 for Tu Nidito Children and Family Services.

Pregnant Woman Pregnant Again

Pregnant Woman Pregnant Again, An Arkansas woman, Julia Grovenburg, surprised doctors when she went in for an ultrasound in June.  Grovenburg had gotten pregnant while already pregnant, but the babies are not twins. Read more and see video below.
Pregnant Woman Pregnant Again
Todd and Julia Grovenburg’s doctors saw their baby girl Jillian but then discovered a smaller baby growing beside her, a little boy.

Doctors believe the Grovenburg’s may have conceived their son Hudson two-and-a-half weeks after Jillian, according to statements given to KFSM-TV in Ft. Smith-Fayetteville, Ark.

This is considered to be a rare occurence.

“When the woman had her ultrasound initially, they saw one sack, one baby developing, and that baby had a certain gestational age; then they noticed a second heartbeat in a child that was much, much younger developmentally,” Dr. Karen Boyle of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, told ABC News’ “Good Morning America Health.”

Boyle said it’s uncommon for fetuses to differ so widely in size and development early in pregnancy, although babies are of varying sizes at birth.

“It does really sound like this is a true case of different conception times for these children,” said Boyle.

Conceiving while you are already pregnant is called superfetation, and is so rare that Boyle said, “There is no prevalence or incidence in the literature. I could only find about 10 reported cases.”

Grovenburg’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Muylaert, confirmed to KFSM-TV that the Grovenburgs may be dealing with the extraordinarily rare case of superfetation.

“Mrs. Julia Grovenburg is pregnant with twins and there appears to be a discordant growth pattern, possibly due to superfetation,” Dr. Muylaert wrote in a letter to KFSM-TV.

“This is an unusual and rare condition, but the possibility is real. It can only be confirmed after delivery by chromosomal and metabolic studies on the babies. She was evaluated at UAMS in Little Rock for this condition and they confirmed the suspicion of superfetation,” he continued.

“The interesting thing in this case is if these children were actually born on their due dates, the older child would be born at the end of 2009, and the younger child would be born in the beginning of 2010,” said Boyle.
