Charlie Sheen Pleads Not Guilty To Assaulting Wife

Charlie Sheen Pleads Not Guilty To Assaulting WifeActor Charlie Sheen pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of assaulting his wife, who had previously asked for the case to be dropped.
Sheen, 44, the star of America’s most-watched TV comedy “Two and a Half Men”, entered his plea though his lawyer at a brief court hearing in the ski resort of Aspen.
The court set a July 21 trial date, although Sheen’s wife, Brooke Mueller, has told journalists repeatedly that she would like the case dropped.
Sheen was charged in February with assaulting and threatening Mueller, his third wife, on Dec. 25 during a family vacation in Aspen. Mueller told police Sheen pulled a knife on her and threatened to have her killed when she said she would divorce him. Both had been drinking, according to alcohol tests.
He could face up to three years behind bars if convicted on the charges of felony menacing, misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. The menacing charge entails the alleged use of a deadly weapon in a threatening manner.
Mueller was not in court with Sheen on Monday but the couple is back together in Los Angeles with their infant twins and attempting to rebuild their two-year-old marriage.
“Charlie looks forward to the trial to clear his name,” Sheen’s publicist Stan Rosenfield told reporters after Monday’s hearing in Aspen.
Production of the CBS show “Two and a Half Men” was halted after Sheen checked into rehab last month for undisclosed reasons. Mueller also spent time in rehab, reportedly for substance abuse.
Executive producer Mark Burg told reporters on Monday that shooting for the four remaining episodes of “Two and a Half Men” this season would resume on Tuesday.

Women s Day Sms Messages, Women s Day Quotes

Women s Day Sms Messages, Women s Day Quotes, Every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked on March 8 . It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. The IWD is also celebrated as the first spring holiday in the Northern Hemisphere as the first day of March is considered the first day of the spring season.

The first IWD was observed on 28 February 1909 in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. Among other relevant historic events, it came to commemorate the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. The idea of having an international women’s day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions.

On occasion of 2010 International Women’s Day the International Committee of the Red Cross is drawing attention to the hardship displaced women endure. The displacement of populations is one of the gravest consequences of today’s armed conflicts. It affects women in a host of ways. But far from being helpless victims, women are resourceful, resilient and courageous in the face of hardship.

India Parliament To Vote On Women Quota Bill

India Parliament To Vote On Women Quota BillINDIA:The Women Reservation Bill is to be introduced in the upper house on Monday, International Women’s Day, before being considered by the decision-making lower house at a later date.

“We will table the bill in the upper house today,” Congress party leader P.S Ghatwar told AFP. “The bill if passed then will move to lower house.”

The controversial proposal to reserve 33 percent of seats, first introduced in parliament in 1996, would dramatically increase women’s membership in both houses of parliament where they occupy about one in 10 seats.

The legislation needs the approval of two-thirds of legislators. If passed, women would occupy 181 of the 545 seats in the lower house.

“Our government is committed towards women empowerment. We are moving towards one-third reservation for women in parliament and state legislatures,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a women’s leadership summit on Saturday.

The bill has the backing of the Congress-led ruling coalition and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several socialist parties vow to oppose it, arguing that if passed it would lead to upper caste, not lower caste, women in parliament

Attempts to pass the bill have been blocked by various political groups who demanded separate quotas for women from Muslim and low-caste communities.

Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress party and regarded as India’s most powerful politician, has thrown her weight behind the bill, saying she attaches the “highest importance” to it.

It will be a “gift to the women of India if it is introduced and passed” on International Women’s Day, she told party lawmakers last week.

The main opposition on Monday voiced support for the bill.

“I see no reason why it should not be tabled, it is true that there is no unanimity but there is a huge consensus,” senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.

But leaders of socialist parties such as the Samajwadi Party said they would oppose it.

“We will do everything to make sure that bill is not passed,” said Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Politics in India has traditionally been a male bastion, but women now hold prominent positions, including President Pratibha Patil and Sonia Gandhi. India has had one female prime minister, Indira Gandhi.

Women currently occupy 59 seats out of 545 in the lower house. There are just 21 women in the 248-seat upper house.

Saints Vs Patriots 2009

Saints Vs Patriots 2009Saints Vs Patriots 2009, The Saints vs. Patriots 2009 game is of interest to people around the country. The Saints vs. Patriots game is this week’s Monday Night Football game on ESPN, and pits two great teams against each other in a battle two supremely good NFL cities. New Orleans is new to this stage, and could earn a lot of respect around the country if they are able to win against the New England Patriots. This is the Monday Night Football game that fans have been waiting weeks to see, and now that the day is upon us, it’s anyone’s guess how this game is going to turn out.

The Saints vs. Patriots is a good game on two different fronts, including their overall records and their prolific offensive statistics so far in 2009. When the two teams take the field on Monday night, it is going to be a shoot-out between Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Both of these QB’s want to walk away with the win, but more importantly the victory could set up the winning team to be in prime position for a first round bye in the 2009 NFL Playoffs. Right now the Saints are the top seed in the NFC, but Minnesota is only one game behind them. In the AFC Indianapolis leads things, but several other teams are already 8-3, meaning that New England needs this win to keep pace.

So far in 2009, the New Orleans Saints are 10-0 and the New England Patriots are sitting at 7-3. New England lost a close game to Indianapolis earlier in the season that they could have won, but other than that, this is the toughest game for both teams on the 2009 NFL schedule. New England would like nothing more than to end the winning streak that the Saints have going, and the Saints want to prove that they belong among the elite teams in the NFL by taking one from one of the best teams in the NFL this decade. This game could prove to be a passing of the torch if Drew Brees can put up some great numbers.

With two great offenses taking the field on Monday, this game could come down to which team can make the key defensive stops. Both offenses are going to put up the points, and that will make it very important for someone on defense to take a step forward and make some big plays. The kick-off for the New England vs. New Orleans Monday night game is at 5:30 P.M. PST, and this is a game that is going to interest football fans from Spokane, Washington all the way to Miami, Florida because it is geared up to be some great television.
