Suicide Bomber Killed 10 People : Kabul

Suicide Bomber Killed 10 People : KabulA suicide bomber killed 10 people near an upmarket shopping and hotel complex in the heart of Kabul today, while police shot dead two other would-be attackers.
A military official said that 10 people were killed and 11 others wounded. Witnesses reported at least two smaller blasts around the Safi Landmark complex as police cordoned off the area, ambulances rushed to the scene and sporadic gunfire was heard. Witnesses said it was followed by two or three smaller blasts as grey smoke billowed over the area. The heavily fortified centre of Kabul has been relatively calm since January 18, when Taliban gunmen stormed the city’s commercial heart, taking over buildings, detonating suicide vests and killing at least five people. Shattered glass carpeted the road outside the Park Residence Hotel, a guesthouse frequented by foreigners in the centre of the city. Police commandos were seen using ladders to scale the glass outside wall of the guesthouse. The low-rise hotel overlooks Sar-I-Naw Park — popular with men who attend cock fights and volleyball matches — and is adjacent to the eight-story City Centre shopping mall and Safi Landmark Hotel.

Indian killed in Australia: Racial attack

4ee6648663ia map Indian killed in Australia: Racial attackCANBERRA: An Indian man fatally stabbed in a Melbourne park had feared for his life because of a previous attack at a railway station, his housemate has said.

The 21-year-old man staggered into a Hungry Jack’s restaurant on the corner of Somerville Road and Geelong Road, West Footscray, asking for help before collapsing about 10pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

The man, from Newport, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he later died.
His housemate Parminder Singh said the man had previously been attacked at the Newport railway station.

“They were just drunk and they wanted to find anyone to beat,” he told the ABC.
“If they find someone alone they just beat (them) because they know nothing is going to happen after that.

“What will happen? Police will not do anything. They will just take them to the jail or just let them sit there, they will give them food and all facilities so they’re not scared of anything.”

The attack comes after a series of violent incidents against Indians in Melbourne and Sydney in 2008.

The violence led to protests and made headlines across India and internationally, creating potential problems for Australia’s $15.5 billion education export industry.

Police said the man stabbed on Saturday had travelled to Yarraville train station about 9.30pm (AEDT), then walked along Anderson Street to Cruickshank Park where he was stabbed in the abdomen.

He then staggered about 300 metres to the Hungry Jack’s restaurant where he worked part-time.

Homicide squad Senior Sergeant Dave Snare said the attack was vicious and the motive not known.

He said there was no evidence the man was targeted because of his race.

“I think to draw any conclusion as to the motive may interfere with the investigation and would be presumptuous at this stage,” he told reporters in Melbourne.

The victim, a single man who had permanent residency in Australia, is understood to be originally from India’s Punjabi region. But Federation of Indian Students spokesman Gautum Gupta said race was a clear factor in the attack.

“Nothing was stolen. The wallet was there, mobile phone was there, so there’s no other motivation other than race,” he said.

Police are trying to contact the man’s relatives abroad and determine if he has any in Australia.

Sen Sgt Snare said at this stage police had no leads and urged any witnesses to come forward. police particularly want to hear from a group of people who were in the park earlier that night.

They say while there is no suggestion they were involved in the attack, they could help the investigation. Some of the man’s belongings were found in the park and police are asking locals to keep an eye out for other items.

Sri Lanka vs India Cricket Live Score

Sri Lanka vs India Cricket live ScoreSri Lanka vs India, The world saw one of the highest scoring thrillers of the ODI format with both India and Sri Lanka going past the 400-run mark. In the end, Dhoni’s men managed to clinch the cliff-hanger, winning it by three runs.

Watch Live Cricket

India’s best bowler of the day, Harbhajan Singh started the ball rolling in the host’s favour as he clean bowled Tilakratne Dilshan, Sri Lanka’s star of the day at a score of 160 runs. His fall brought down some jitters down the Lankan batting line-up as India seemed to regain their groove with two new batsmen on the crease. The result- Mahela Jayawardene got in the middle of a mix-up and was run out.

Dilshan was the chief nemesis of the hosts though, as he smashed his fourth ODI century off just 73 balls, making the run-chase more interesting and poised. He was given due support from Tharanga, who completed a quick-fire fifty too.

India had struck some luck as Upul Tharanga fell to Suresh Raina’s unorthodox bowling style. Dhoni had made a smart change, getting the part-time bowler to upset the combo that had whacked the regular bowlers all over the park. However, the fall of the first wicket did not reap rich dividends as constant bad fielding and dropped catches gave the Lankans full time to recover.

The battle of the willow seemed to be going in the favour of the visitors, but just then, Praveen Kumar pegged captain Kumar Sangakkara to bring back some life into the contest. The feat was followed-up by Harbhajan’s prized scalp of the most dangerous hitters of them all, Sanath Jayasuriya. The plot for the visitors got hazy from here on and the home team gained ground just when it was needed the most.

Scorecard: India Vs Sri Lanka

India registered their highest ever ODI total (414/7) to make the Sri Lankans sweat bullets in the first ODI at Rajkot. The batsmen made merry in the absence of Muralitharan and everyone got into the act, lead by centurion Sehwag, MS Dhoni and the ever so graceful Sachin Tendulkar.

Ravindra Jadeja’s high hitting towards the end helped the hosts cross the 400-run mark after some wickets tumbled in an effort to take the pyrotechnics to a new level.

Soon after crossing the 300-run mark, Sehwag-Dhoni duo seemed poised to take the team’s score past 450, but the dream was cut short when, first Chanaka Welegedara and then later, Dilhara Fernando dismissed Sehwag (146) and Dhoni (72), respectively.

Sehwag had slammed his 12th ODI hundred in his typical style, less balls-more runs. This was his second ton against Sri Lanka and the islanders were left wondering what hit them as the Najafgarh blaster kept his aim simple- Smash everything out of the park!

India Vs Srilanka 2nd Test Live Streaming

India Vs Srilanka 2nd Test LiveKanpur: India Vs Srilanka 2nd Test Live Streaming, It was India’s willow all the way on the first day of the second Test against Sri Lanka as the final scorecard read 417/2. The innings was studded with some elegant shot-making and one could only feel for the bowlers, who had no help from the Kanpur pitch either.

Watch Live Cricket

Gambhir was the man of the day, having crossed one hundred fifty runs, with the panache of the best stroke masters of cricket.

He finally fell to Murali’s guile and was caught out at a score of one hundred sixty seven runs.

Rahul Dravid continued with his good form with the bat, scoring a fine half-century as his shots were in sync with his centurion effort of the previous match.

The first and only jolt of the first half of the day had come in the form of Virender Sehwag’s scalp as the batsman was out at 131 runs from just 122 balls while trying to whack another one out of the park.

Muralitharan was his nemesis too, with the tweaker lofting one up to catch Sehwag’s fancy, resulting in his dismissal. However, Gautam Gambhir kept the tempo up, recording his 8th Test century in the process.

India were off to a great start with Sehwag and Gambhir hitting amazing knocks, reasserting the notion that they are the best opening pair in the world. Their stroke-play turned the scoreboard into a Tokyo taxi, with the total near the 250-run mark in a jiffy.

If the pre-lunch session had India stamped all over it, the post-lunch session was not much different either, barring the wicket of Sehwag.

It was an incredible session of play for India in the morning too, as the world’s most dangerous openers unleashed a flurry of boundaries on the islanders, rotating the strike at will.

Scorecard: India Vs Sri Lanka

There have been two changes floated into the Indian side with S Sreesanth and Pragyan Ojha coming in for Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra respectively. Sri Lanka too made a change to their line-up, bringing in Ajantha Mendis, the mystery spinner to have a three pronged spin attack.

With the three spinner theory not working for Sri Lanka, Sangakkara would hope to use the morning dew tomorrow to try and shake the middle order from turning loose an array of records on a batsmen friendly pitch.
