Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog Day

Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil’s Annual 242af43605iction Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog DayPrediction And Groundhog Day 2010 – Punxsutawney Phil (the most famous groundhog) The Groundhog Day 2010 is today. “Groundhog Day is a lot like a rock concert but the people are better behaved and there’s a groundhog involved,” said Tom Chapin, editor of the Punxsutawney Spirit newspaper.

Regardless of the weather prediction, on Groundhog Day, Phil “speaks” to his human caretakers, known as the Inner Circle, in Groundhogese and tells them his forecast.  The Inner Circle then translates Phil’s words for the world to hear—or so they say.

Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2. It is held in the United States and Canada. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.

The holiday, which began as a Pennsylvania German custom in southeastern and central Pennsylvania in the 18th and 19th centuries, has its origins in ancient European weather lore, wherein a badger or sacred bear is the prognosticator as opposed to a groundhog.

The holiday also bears some similarities to the medieval Catholic holiday of Candlemas. It also bears similarities to the Pagan festival of Imbolc, the seasonal turning point of the Celtic calendar, which is celebrated on February 2 and also involves weather prognostication.

Pennhurst State School and Hospital

Pennhurst State School and HospitalPennhurst State School and Hospital, The School and the Pennhurst State Hospital began in a small town in Pennsylvania in 1908. The purpose was to help people with mental and physical disabilities. Both adults and children were brought there Walking on campus. Most of them were sent by parents, some children were there alone after that, because parents never got to see them. They had a system for separating patients according to their mental level. Some were able to do their job on their own after treatment while others could not even feed and bathe on their own.

Patients in extreme conditions was suspended in cribs all day, where they were unable to move or turn around.
Patients need constant attention and was a very difficult task for doctors, but the most terrible scene came to see when the hospital became overcrowded by patients, in those days, the patient looks in a miserable condition. Some patients learned to capture the attention of staff with their faces spots that force them to clean them.
Pennhurst was closed in 1987 due to a case that was filed against him in 1977. District Judge Raymond J. Broderick, was the man who ordered the closure after he found that the school is violating the constitutional rights of the patient.

Thousands of Protesters rally against Obama Government

Thousands of Protesters rally against Obama GovernmentThousands of Protesters rally against Obama Government,

WASHINGTON: Tens of thousands of people marched from the shadow of the White House to the footsteps of the US Capitol Saturday to protest against President Barack Obama and his “big government” policies.

They carried hand-painted posters with slogans decrying Obama’s proposed healthcare reforms, or accusing the Democratic administration of leading the United States down the road to socialism.

“Abortion is not healthcare,” read one sign. Another, held aloft by an immigrant from Ukraine, screamed, “I had enough of socialism in the USSR.”

Quinn Ryan, 11, stood in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue, near the spot where Obama and his wife Michelle walked on a bitter cold day in January after he was sworn in as the first black American president, brandishing a sign reading, “Born free, taxed to death.”

“With the bad economy, it can really affect some people, like the lifestyle of certain people. It’s affecting us at home… not so we can’t eat at night but that’s why we have to get involved now — so it doesn’t get too bad,” his 13-year-old sister Megan, who was holding her own sign, said.

The march, coordinated by Freedomworks, a grassroots movement calling for lower taxes, less government and more economic freedom for all Americans, drew demonstrators from across the United States.

Protesters shouted out the name of their state — Oregon on the west coast, Minnesota in the Midwest, New York — as they passed a couple of pro-life activists.

“It is increasingly clear that New Yorkers have the debacle that is represented by the fact that Government officials have succeeded to rebuild Ground Zero,” Barry LePatner, the building of a lawyer, said feeling ashamed.

“Unfortunately, the only conclusion from a careful study of their performance in this important moment is drawn, is the attitude that the public be damned.”

Pay Tribute To Victems Of 9/11 By New York

Pay Tribute To Victems Of 9 11 By New YorkNEW YORK: New York will lead tributes on Friday to victims of the 9/11 attacks in a ceremony at Ground Zero where work on replacements for the World Trade Center, and even a memorial, remains mostly stalled.

On the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by al Qaeda militants riding hijacked airliners, mourners will remember the 2,752 people who died in the destruction of the Twin Towers in Manhattan.

They will also mourn those who died in the attacks just hours later on the

Pentagon outside Washington and on a fourth plane, which crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers overpowered the hijackers.

Powerful lights will send beams skyward from the site at nightfall.

Despite a deep desire to properly remember the tragedy, constant financial and legal wrangling has slowed work on replacing the enormous Twin Towers to a snail’s pace.

The financial crisis and downturn in the real estate market have made speedy renewal of the neighborhood even less likely and frustration is rising.

“It has become increasingly clear that New Yorkers should be embarrassed by the debacle that is represented by the failure of government officials to have successfully rebuilt Ground Zero,” Barry LePatner, a construction attorney, said.

“Unfortunately, the only conclusion that can be drawn from a careful study of their actions at this important site is an attitude that the public be damned.”
