President Barack Obama announced that he plans to spread the money that accompanies his Nobel Peace Prize among 10 different charities.
Obama was awarded the prize based on the hope that his presidency would bring about a change in American foreign policy, had decided soon after being notified of the award that he would donate the $1.4 million award to charity.
The prize money would be distributed amongst non-profit organization which include organization that provides housing for families of those receiving medical care at major military and Veterans Affairs medical centers. Obama will also give to an organization dedicated to the long term relief and rebuilding of Haiti massive earthquake that devastated the country. Much of the rest of the award will go to boosting college education scholarship funds. Obama also awarded $100,000 each to two charities working in Africa and Central.
The other, the Central Asia Institute, promotes literacy and education, primarily for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. One of the institute’s co-founders was also a nominee for the Nobel Prize that Obama won.
Islamabad, Pakistan News :- Supreme Court’s 3-member bench while hearing the suo moto notice on judges’ appointment has suspended Presidential order. A short judgment has been issued in this regard. According to the short verdict, the notification is contradictory to Article 177 of the Constitution. Justice Khawaja Sharif and Justice Saqib Nisar will continue serving their incumbent posts as chief justice Lahore High Court and judge LHC respectively. The bench – headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and comprised of Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Jawad S. Khawaja – heard the case.
Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has taken suo moto notice on judges’ appointment. Supreme Court’s 3-member bench is reviewing the suo moto notice. Attorney General has been called in the Supreme Court by the bench in this regard.
Rejecting the summary sent by the CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for judges’ appointment, President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif as judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Saqib Nisar has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of LHC. However, both the judges have refused President’s decision and said that they cannot decide anything without consultation with the CJP.
Notification for judges appointment has been issued. According to sources, it has happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that any senior most judge has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.
Justice Khawaja Sharif said that he will not accept any decision without consultation with the Chief Justice of Pakistan while Justice Saqib Nisar said that he will act upon CJP’s orders and he will not go to Governor House to take oath of the post.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had sent summary to the President recommending the name of Justice Saqib Nisar for the appointment in Supreme Court. CJP also recommended the President to retain Justice Khawaja Sharif as Chief Justice of LHC.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani at the Presidency in which country’s situation came under discussion. Before his meeting with PM Gilani, President also met with Babar Awan and Latif Khosa in which judges’ appointment issue was discussed. On this occasion, situation prevailed after Supreme Court’s decision on NRO was also reviewed.

Addressing a procession in Faisalabad, the President said wearing a turban in Punjab reminded him of the prisons in the province. President said Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives to serve the nation as the present war was also being fought for the prosperity of the next generation.
President Zardari said Faisalabad provides employment to the poor so the city would receive electricity first and then other cites would receive it. He said the forces have reached near the success in war against terrorism. President said that he can overcome the most difficult challenges. He further said that he would leave no stone unturned to end the shortage of water, electricity or unemployment.
Karachi, Pakistan news:- President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said power belongs to people, adding that a leader had to go to public to become a people’s leader.
Addressing a central ceremony of PPP’s 43rd anniversary, Zardari said PPP’s government had for the first time sought pardon from the people of Balochistan and given them Balochistan empowerment package. He stressed the need to bring all issues to parliament instead of accusing any party. “Today, if we have power, it’s because the public have given mandate to Pakistan People’s Party. Now the government has right to complete its tenure.” Accusing the media for efforts to destabilize the system he said, “We are proud that nobody except ‘political actors’ want to derail the system.”
President said, “we are happy to see public gatherings of opposition parties also as this is real democracy, wherever we see democracy, we see Bhuttoism.” He said people who used to receive money for public appearance, now had to visit slums to get votes as Bhuttoism had empowered the people of this country. “Pakistan has been stabilized by PPP and we will continue to do so. Our own existence and politics of every kind is bound with Pakistan’s existence,” he added. Zardari said he often listen to public opinion and act accordingly even sitting in the Presidency. He congratulated the public for successfully holding Gilgit-Baltistan elections. “Even there we hear slogans of Jiay Bhutto, and we receive votes because of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto even today.”Zardari said, “Why Benazir Bhutto came to Pakistan despite knowing that her life was in danger, she just came to save Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan.”
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at the presidency and discussed with him the current political situation of the country.
The two leaders exchanged views over the upcoming socio-economic uplift package for Balochistan, post NRO scenario, the expected reshuffle in federal cabinet and various issues relating to the concerns of ruling allies.
Sources said the discussion dominated the scathing criticism facing ruling quarters including president house following the exposed list of NRO beneficiaries.
In the meeting, it was also discussed to invite PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for another meeting aimed at deescalating tension with the “friendly opposition.”
It merits mentioning here that Zardari has summoned the joint session of both the Houses of the Parliament on Tuesday to approve the Balochistan package.
All arrangements for the joint sitting have reportedly been finalized.
