Luke Air Force Base is on high alert after two men who crashed through the front gate late Monday night in a stolen car were shot, killing one and wounding the other, according to base officials.
Base spokesman Capt. Jerry Gonzalez said the pair allegedly stole a car and attempted to flee from authorities. Gonzalez said base security forces set up a roadblock. As the driver tried to run it, security officers fearing for their safety opened fire.
Luke Air Force Base is located in Glendale, Ariz., outside Phoenix, and is used to train pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets.
In the meantime a report says that a person who was riding a stolen car was killed and another injured when they didn’t stop at a security check point in Luke Air Force Base. A report says that “The car went through the entrance without stopping as required and security forces then used a vehicle to set up a roadblock on a bridge leading to the operational side of the base, near Glendale, Capt. Jerry Gonzalez, a spokesman for the base, told msnbc.com”.

WASHINGTON – Former Secretary of State Alexander Haig, a four-star general who served as a top adviser to three presidents and had presidential ambitions of his own, died Saturday of complications from an infection, his family said. He was 85.
Haig’s long and decorated military career launched the Washington career for which he is better known, including top posts in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations. He never lived down his televised response to the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.
Hours after the shooting, then Secretary of State Haig went before the cameras intending, he said later, to reassure Americans that the White House was functioning.

Twelve Dead, 31 Wounded in Texas Military Base Shooting, At least one American soldier went on a shooting rampage Thursday in a sprawling Texas military base killing 11 people and wounding 31 others before being gunned down, army officials said.
Two other soldiers were arrested after the shooting spree and were being held as suspects, said Lieutenant General Bob Cone, commander at Fort Hood, the largest US military base in the world.
The soldier, identified as Major Hassan Malik, opened fire with two handguns in a busy processing center where troops go before being deployed on overseas missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Cone told reporters the motive for the attack remained unclear.
“We don’t know that right now. Again, this is all under investigation,” he stressed; adding he believed the incident was now over.
US President Barack Obama, who had been kept informed of the shooting as the drama was tracked in the White House situation room, denounced the attack as “an horrific outburst of violence.”
“My immediate thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and with the families of the fallen,” Obama said.
“It’s difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas. It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on American soil.”
Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said Malik was about to be deployed to Iraq.
“I am shocked and saddened by today’s outburst of violence at Fort Hood that has cost seven of our brave service members their lives and has gravely injured others. My heart goes out to their loved ones,” she said.
General Cone confirmed that 12 people were dead including the shooter.
“At approximately 1:30 today, a shooter entered what we call the soldier readiness facility, where soldiers getting ready to deploy go for check ups and treatment. A shooter opened fire. That person was killed. As I said, the shooter was killed. He was a soldier,” Cone said.
Cone added that after a manhunt on the sprawling base in Killeen they had “apprehended two additional soldiers who are suspects, and I would go into the point that there were eyewitness accounts that there may have been more than one shooter.”
He said he had been stunned by the incident, adding “soldiers and family members and many of the great civilians that work here are absolutely devastated.
“I want to express my condolences to the soldiers, the families, and the civilians in this great community in central Texas. This is a tragedy, but we will work through it.”
Fort Hood has been working to rehabilitate many soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, local congressman John Carter told sources.
Fort Hood is the headquarters of the Army 3rd Corps, the 4th Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division.

SEATTLE : Lakewood Police Department Washington, Four police officers were gunned down in an execution-style ambush at a coffee shop in Washington on Sunday, triggering a manhunt for a convicted armed robber with a history of violence.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ed Troyer said the victims were sitting at a table in the cafe before their shift when a lone gunman entered and started shooting at around 8:15 am (1615 GMT) local time.
“We have somebody out there who blatantly went in and opened fire on four police officers, killing all four of them,” Troyer said following the shooting near McChord Air Force base in Tacoma, south of Seattle.
Late Sunday the identities of the victims — who were all wearing uniform including bulletproof vests at the time of the attack — were released.
The dead were named as Sergeant Mark Renninger, 39, Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42. All of the officers were married with children, police said.
Troyer said the officers, from nearby Lakewood Police Department, had been specifically targeted, noting that staff and customers at the coffee shop had not been shot at. “This was more of an execution. Walk in with the specific mindset to shoot police officers.”
The suspected gunman was described as a “black male in his 20s or 30s” Troyer told reporters. “He walked in with a handgun, opened fire multiple times and fled the scene,” he said.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said later Sunday they were seeking Maurice Clemmons, 37, for questioning as a “person of interest in the case.”
According to reports, Clemmons has a long criminal history including five felony convictions in Arkansas and several felony charges in Washington.
He had been in jail in Pierce County for several months until recently pending a charge of second-degree rape of a child.
According to the Seattle Times, Clemmons served only a fraction of a 35-year prison term in Arkansas before his sentence was controversially commuted by the state’s then Governor Mike Huckabee, who mounted an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
Troyer earlier told King 5 local television that one of the mortally wounded officers may have traded fire with the gunman.
“There is evidence that a Lakewood Police officer fired off some shots and we hope that he hit him,” Troyer said. “If he’s hit, that means that he’s injured somewhere with a gunshot wound.”
Troyer said local hospitals had been alerted in case the suspect sought medical attention.
Police set up tiplines and offered a 10,000-dollar reward for anyone with information about those responsible for the shooting.
Around 200 officers from different law enforcement agencies were involved in the hunt for the shooting suspect late Sunday, police said.
“We have no motive at all,” Troyer told King 5. “I don’t think when we find out what it is, it will be anything that makes any sense or be worth it.”
Washington Governor Chris Gregoire voiced his shock at the shootings, which local media said was the worst single loss of life involving law enforcement officers in state history.
“I am shocked and horrified at the murder of four police officers this morning in Pierce County,” Gregoire said.

BAGHDAD: A U.S. soldier in Iraq was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of shooting dead a civilian contractor on the U.S. military’s Camp Speicher, its main base in northern Iraq, a U.S. military spokesman said.
The shooting took place on Sunday at around 8.30 am (0530 GMT), U.S. military spokesman for north Iraq Derrick Cheng said.
“A U.S. Soldier has been identified and detained in the alleged shooting incident of a civilian contractor here on … Speicher,” he said. “The civilian contractor later died of wounds. We offer our sincere condolences to the family.”
Speicher is on the outskirts of the Iraqi city of Tikrit, 150 km (95 miles) north of Baghdad. Cheng did not give further details of the shooting, which he said was under investigation.
In May, a U.S. soldier shot dead five fellow soldiers at a military clinic in Baghdad, an incident that triggered some soul searching in the U.S. military about the effects of stress on troops who do serial deployments.
