Tables Economic Survey In Parliament:Pranab Mukherjee

Tables Economic Survey In Parliament:Pranab MukherjeeA day before unveiling the Union Budget, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has tabled the Economic Survey in Parliament. India’s GDP expected to grow at 8.5% in 2010-2011.

Besides the Survey, the Minister will also present the report of the 13th Finance Commission on sharing of taxes between the centre and states for the five-year period beginning April 2010, along with an action taken report.

The Survey, which will provide the outlook for 2010-11, is expected to project around 7.5 per cent economic growth rate during the current fiscal, which will be marginally higher than 7.2 per cent estimated by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).

Previous Survey, which was tabled in July by Mukherjee, had said the economy, despite the impact of the global financial crisis, could expand up to 7.75 per cent. It was reiterated by the Minister when he presented the Mid-Year Review of the Economy in December.

Driven by stimulus package, the economy during the second quarter of the fiscal ending September grew by 7.9 per cent, much above the expectation of the analysts.

The survey is also expected to underline the need for fiscal consolidation as the deficit of the government is estimated to shoot up to 6.8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during 2009-10 from 6.2 per cent a year ago.

Musharraf tries to woo embattled nazims

Pervez Musharraf 1Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf has invited ‘Nazims’ (elected officials of local governments) to meet him in Abu Dhabi in order to gain his support against government’s move to scrap the existing local government system.

Nazims already have support of the PML-Q and the MQM.

“Former president after concluding his visit to Saudi Arabia would stay for some days in the UAE where he would have consultations with nazims as well as PML-Q leaders from both Chaudhrys and Chattha camps,” The Nation quoted sources, as saying.

Musharraf’s aides say that in the meeting with the representatives of district governments, former president would assure them his full support inside the country and at the international fora.

“The other factor behind this meeting is to win the support of nazims for Musharraf’s future intentions to enter into national politics,” said the sources.

“The invitations have not only been extended to nazims, but also to many PML-Q leaders both from Chaudhrys and Chattha camps,” they added.

PML-Q leader Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi, , who has the support of the majority of district nazims in Punjab, has asked his men to stay away from Musharraf and his invitation.

“PML-Q is already pleading local governments case wholeheartedly at all the fora, therefore, district nazims having affiliation with PML-Q need not Musharraf’s support in their cause,” said a PML-Q leader.

The paper quoted Bahawalpur district nazim Tariq Basheer Cheema as saying that he would not attend any such meeting.

“I have good relations with Chaudhry brothers and need not support of the former president to carry on struggle for the existing local government system,” he added.

Jim Johnson Dead

Jim Johnson Dead, Jim Johnson, whose attacking defenses helped the Eagles to one Super Bowl appearance and five NFC title games, has died. He was 68.
Jim Johnson Dead
Johnson had taken a leave of absence from the team in May as he continued to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. The Eagles announced his death on Tuesday afternoon.

A veteran of 22 years as an NFL assistant, Johnson was considered one of the top defensive minds in the league, known for complex schemes that confused opponents and pressured the quarterback from every angle. His defenses consistently ranked among the best in the league, including last season, when the Eagles finished third in total defense and fell one victory short of the Super Bowl.

From 2000-08, Johnson’s Philadelphia defenses ranked second in the NFL in sacks (390). During his 10-year tenure, the Eagles made the playoffs seven times and he produced 26 Pro Bowl selections.

Earlier this week, the team announced that Sean McDermott would replace Johnson, who had been Andy Reid’s only defensive coordinator in his 10 seasons as Eagles head coach.

In his first press conference as coordinator, McDermott gave full credit to Johnson.

“What haven’t I learned from Jim?” McDermott said. “I don’t think it would be fair to Jim, in this setting, to try and limit in one statement, one press conference, the effect that Jim has had on my life.”

McDermott paid Johnson the ultimate compliment in describing the style of defense he wanted the Eagles to play: Johnson’s style.

“There is one thing I know, and that is that this system, it works,” McDermott said. “Jim has spent a considerable amount of time in his coaching career researching and finding things that work and finding things that didn’t work, quite frankly, and I’m going to respect that and we’re going to build on that. From there, we’ll add wrinkles.”

Johnson had been treated for melanoma in 2001.

In January, he complained of back pain and coached from the press box in the Eagles’ playoff win over the New York Giants and in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC championship.

An MRI after the divisional playoff win against the Giants on Jan. 11 alerted doctors that something might be wrong. Following the Arizona loss, the team announced the cancer had returned and Johnson would undergo more treatments.

Johnson had recovered sufficiently to coach during the team’s first post-draft minicamp in May. But he coached from a motorized scooter during practices and said he wasn’t certain he’d be able to return for the season.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin did not know Johnson, but admired him from afar.

“He was great to work with and for, and he had his priorities in order,” Coughlin said. “His players loved to play for him and his coaches loved to coach with him. It is a sad day for the National Football League to lose somebody the quality of Jim Johnson. It is a sad note on which to start the season.”

The Eagles said Reid and team president Joe Banner would be available Tuesday evening to talk about Johnson.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children and four grandchildren.

Rorschach Inkblot Test

Rorschach Blots, The Rorschach test; also known as the Rorschach inkblot test or simply as an Inkblot test) is a method of psychological evaluation in which subjects’ perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using, depending on the psychologist, intuitive insight, Rorschach Inkblot Testcomplex scientifically derived algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to try to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients. It has been employed in diagnosing underlying thought disorder and differentiating psychotic from nonpsychotic thinking in cases where the patient is reluctant to admit openly to psychotic thinking. The test takes its name from that of its creator, Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach.

In a national survey in the U.S., the Rorschach was ranked eighth among psychological tests used in outpatient mental health facilities.[4] It is the second most widely used test by members of the Society for Personality Assessment, and it is requested in 25% of forensic assessment cases, usually in a battery of tests frequently also including the MMPI-2 and the MCMI-III. In surveys, 80% of clinical psychologists engaging in assessment services utilize the Rorschach, and 80% of psychology graduate programs teach it.

Although the Exner Scoring System (developed since the 1960s) has addressed and often refuted many criticisms of the original testing system with an extensive body of research, some researchers have raised questions about the objectivity of psychologists administrating the test; inter-rater reliability; the verifiability and general validity of the test; bias of the test’s pathology scales towards greater numbers of responses; the limited number of psychological conditions which it accurately diagnoses; the inability to replicate the test’s norms; its use in court-ordered evaluations; and the proliferation of the ten inkblot images, potentially invalidating the test for those who have been exposed to them.
