The glitzy 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony would be held at Kodak Theatre tonight.
“Avatar” alone has earned more than $2.4 billion worldwide, making it the highest grossing film in history. For the first time in 67 years, 10 films are vying for Best Picture honors, double the usual number. Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said 5,777 voting members represent various branches of the film industry, who would decide the fate of the winners. Co-hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin (a two-time Oscar host) have been scribbling jokes, filming promos and perhaps thinking about which tux to wear. This year’s presenters include both seasoned and fresh talent. “Twilight’s” Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be making their first appearance on the telecast. Last year’s Oscar winners Penelope Cruz, Sean Penn and Kate Winslet are also scheduled to present.

UNITED STATES : New Moon Named Best Movie of 2009, Twilight sequel ‘New Moon’ has been voted the best movie of 2009 in a new poll.

Heartthrob Robert Pattinson took away the title for Sexiest Male star, with 46.5pct votes, while co-star Taylor Lautner was named Best Male Breakout star, timesofindia.com quoted.

‘New Moon’ was also ranked as the year’s champ “chick flick.”

Although voters ranked “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” as the worst movie of 2009, as well as the second most disappointing film after “Bruno,” yet at the same time, they called it the year’s best action flick.

“Transformers” star Megan Fox was voted the year’s Sexiest Female thespian but voters also felt she gave the worst performance of ‘09.

“The Hangover” got was voted the year’s funniest movie, with 51.8pct votes, while Disney/Pixar’s “Up” was named the best animated film.

Sandra Bullock took the best performance by an actress prize for “The Blind Side.”

Meanwhile, Twilight series’ next instalment ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ was picked as the 2010 film fans most yearn to see.

Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson fears that Kristen Stewart might fall for their ‘Eclipse’ co-star Taylor Lautner, it has emerged.

A source told American tabloid Star that Lautner, 17, “definitely has a crush on Kristen. She treats him like a little brother.”

It has also been reported that Taylor and Kristen, 19, were “inseparable” during the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Aug 9.

And Kristen’s close relationship with the Taylor has left Pattison scared.

“Rob is really nervous that Kristen will fall for Taylor’s charms,” the Daily Telegraph quoted a source as saying.

It is being said that Rob has been dishing out a lot of money on presents for Kristen.

“He looks for rare, vintage things, which he knows Kristen likes,” a source told the National Enquirer.

“So far, Rob has found a black-and-white Beatles photo that cost about 300 dollars and a 1970s concert T-shirt that set him back 400 dollars!” the source added.
