Nine people have died and more than 40 have been injured in a fire in an office block in the southern Indian city of Bangalore, officials say.
Police said most victims had broken windows and jumped from upper floors.
More than 150 people have been moved out of the burning building. Local hospitals are treating people for burns and the effects of smoke inhalation.
Bangalore’s fire chief told the fire was under control and officials would investigate its cause.
Fire fighters were delayed by peak-hour traffic jams when trying to reach the seven-storey high Carlton Towers, which is located in a busy part of the city.

Scores of pilgrims witnessed and took part in the Lathamar Holi celebrations this evening at the Rangili street of Barsana, about 50 kms from here.
During the celebration lasting for about two hours at the Sri Ji temple, womenfolk representing associates of Radha playfully took up batons to defend themselves from the menfolk who sprayed colours on them.

The Sri Krishna Committee, appointed by the Centre on Telangana statehood issue, today asked the Joint Action Council spearheading the agitation for for a separate state not to boycott the panel and said it would wrap up its consultations by July this year.
V K Duggal, member-secretary of the five-member committee who arrived here tonight to put in place the necessary infrastructure for starting its work, said “we will get enough material to give a balanced report”.
Faced with JAC’s decision to boycott the Committee in protest against its Terms of Reference, Duggal expressed the hope that responses would be forthcoming once the intent of the committee is understood.

GAZA CITY : Israeli aircraft attacked at least four targets in Gaza Strip early Saturday, wounding two people in an apparent retaliation for a rocket strike on Israel.
Two explosions were heard in Gaza City, one north of the city and one explosion in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis. All the missiles appeared to land in open fields, Palestinian medics and witnesses said.
Two people, including a child, were lightly wounded, medics said.
An Israeli army spokesman confirmed aircraft had attacked Gaza, but gave no further details.
Israel routinely retaliates for rocket attacks from Gaza and these airstrikes came after a rocket hit the southern Israeli town of Netivot on Thursday without causing casualties.
It marked the latest violence along Gaza’s border, which has been mostly quiet since a war Israel launched on the Hamas in Gaza on December 27, 2008 in response to rocket fire ended with mutual ceasefires on January 18.
The ceasefires have largely held, despite violations by both sides.

NJ Turnpike accident today, State police say a tractor-trailer accident on the New Jersey Turnpike has caused traffic backups of several miles for much of the day in the southern part of the state.
State police Sgt. Julian Castellanos says a southbound tractor-trailer carrying paper products caught fire after hitting an embankment near an overpass in Westampton at around 12:45 p.m.
Fifty-six-year-old truck driver William Ivy of Bowling Green, Ky. was taken to a hospital. Castellanos says Ivy’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.
Castellanos says traffic had to be detoured for several hours in both directions as engineers inspected the overpass for damage. Source philly.com

National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Guillermo formed far out in the Pacific Ocean on Friday.
Guillermo’s maximum sustained winds reached near 80 mph (130 kph) with little further strengthening expected, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said. It was expected to weaken Saturday as it moves over cooler water.
At 8 a.m. PDT (1400 GMT), Guillermo was centered about 1,180 miles (1,900 kilometers) west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.
