Body Bug Biggest Loser

2a0dead69eloser Body Bug Biggest LoserBody Bug Biggest Loser: Last night I’m watching the first episode of season seven of The Biggest Loser and Bob starts talking about the body bug. Well it’s actually bodybugg and it comes from a company called Apex fitness (which is a division of 24 hour fitness which is featured all over the show – what a coincidence). When I saw it I thought, “Hey that’s a GoWear arm bands.” I almost wondered if they are the same product with a different name. Then in an article in Business Week Online (march 2005) you see where the system is created by the Body Media company, and distributed through Apex (so they are basically the same – I think).

What the bodybugg does is it has multiple sensors to accurately determine how many calories you burn in a day. BodyBugg measures heat flux – or the temperature the body’s emitting – then it measures water temperature to compare to the user’s body temperature. When you’re working up a sweat, BodyBugg measures galvanic skin response, or the way the pores open up to sweat. Finally, it has a two-axis accelerometer that measures movement. So if you burn 1500 calories a day, but you are still Gaining weight you either need to eat less than 1500 calories a day, or exercise more.

It does work as a pedometer, so you can track your distance. It does not function as a heart rate monitor (so if you are exercising you have not idea if you are in the aerobic zone or not). The kicker is the price. You’re going to spend $ 200 for the arm band and the display at amazon.com (when they are in stock). You will pay $ 348 for the arm band, the display and a 6 month subscription to the site at Apex. Subscription? Yep, you connect it to your computer login to a website to chart your progress. Apex with charging $ 14.95 a month (if you buy more months it’s less expensive), and GoWear charging $ 9.95 a month.

While these units can be worn 24 / 7, why not just get a decent heart rate monitor and log your food and fitness in a fitness software package and skip the monthly fee?

Yahoo launches Search Tool Like 1 Google Killed

a1aad61d0be dead Yahoo launches Search Tool Like 1 Google KilledYahoo Inc is panning for gold in waters that Google Inc abandoned.

Yahoo said in a blog post on Wednesday that it was testing a new tool to help people better organize the bounty of information that crops up while doing research on the Web.

Search Pad is similar in concept to Google Notebook — a product the Web-search leader opted to halt development on last month.

But the fact that Google threw in the towel on a product does not mean Yahoo is wasting its time, say some analysts. The companies’ differing financial and competitive positions mean what is right for one might not make sense for the other.

Google, which controls roughly 63 percent of the U.S. search market, is taking a hard look at its operating expenses to preserve its operating margin in a slowing economy, including the slew of non-essential projects it traditionally supported.

Yahoo, whose 2008 revenue rose 3 percent to $7.2 billion, is in dire need of a new growth strategy, say analysts.

Investors might be more tolerant of projects that pressure profit margins at Yahoo if there is a chance of a payoff, said Sandeep Aggarwal an analyst at Collins Stewart, speaking in general terms and not of Search Pad specifically.

Yahoo, which recently hired Carol Bartz as chief executive to revive its fortunes, is in a “transformation phase” after turning down a $47.5 billion buyout offer from Microsoft Corp last year and seeing a search advertising partnership with Google fall apart under antitrust scrutiny.

Search Pad predates Bartz’s arrival, said Yahoo Search Senior Director of Product Management Tom Chi.

It stems from a realization that Web surfers use search engines not just to find the link to a particular site, but to conduct research on everything from buying a new car to learning about a medical condition.

The product detects when a person appears to be doing research on a specific topic and offers to catalogue the findings in a special window within the Yahoo search page.

A person can use Search Pad to clip a portion of a website, such as a book review on Amazon.com Inc, add notes to various clippings and save the results as part of their online profile.

Google continues to support Notebook for existing users but no longer updates the product with new features and will not allow new users to sign up for the service.

According to Pacific Crest Securities analyst Steve Weinstein, Yahoo’s best prospect for taking market share in the search business is increasingly about the user experience.

“As it stands right now, no one would shift from using Google, or any other site, just because (a different search engine is) one basis point more relevant,” said Weinstein, who has a “sector perform” rating on Yahoo and whose firm makes a market in Yahoo shares.

“They really need to find some kind of experience that will make people think Yahoo is unique,” he says.

PM Gilani Formally Hands Over JF-17 to PAF

PM Gilani Formally Hands Over JF-17 to PAFISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: PM Gilani Formally Hands Over JF-17 to PAF, First JF-17 Thunder aircraft has been handed over to Pakistan Air Force.. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani says JF-17 Thunder is an important achievement towards self-sufficiency.
Air Chief Marshal says that 40 aircrafts will be built in Pakistan Aeronautical Complex. Talking to media after a ceremony of handing over JF-17 Thunder to Pakistan Air Force, the Prime Minister said that all the governments prolonged their tenures in the name of accountability since 1988
The PM maintained that media personnel talked about 34 politician beneficiaries of the NRO and ignored others in the list. “General Musharraf used these cases to prolong his tenure,” the PM told. Addressing the ceremony, Gilani mentioned PAF’s role in recent war against militancy. JF-17 Thunder is an important achievement towards self-sufficiency, he added.

The JF-17 Thunder a new generation, light-weight, all weather, day/night multi-role fighter aircraft with glass cockpit, hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls and efficient man-machine interface will ensure a minimal pilot workload. The maximum speed of Mach 1.6 and a high thrust-to-weight ratio will enable it to perform well in an air defence role. An ability to carry short – as well as long-range air-to-air missiles, lends the aircraft a first shot capability of conventional as well as non-conventional arsenal.
In the surface attack role, a variety of weapons – conventional as well as precision-guided, a sophisticated avionics suite along with accurate weapon delivery system, ensure higher mission success rate. An effective ECM suite will greatly enhance survivability of the platform. Its anticipated air-to-air refueling capability will provide the JF-17 with more loiter time to safeguard the frontiers and the ability to deliver the required punch at distance. It will replace the ageing fleets of A-5s, F-7Ps and the Mirages in the PAF inventory thus fulfilling a multi-role task. In addition to that the PAC would also be able to export its surplus production in the days to come as the aircraft has received acclaims from the user like PAF.

Tmobile Customer Service

Tmobile Customer Service, Tmobile Blackout: Users of T-Mobile Sidekick have suffered through a higher court in recent days that left many without access to the Web or their address books.
Microsoft, whose danger powers Sidekick service subsidiary, said it was “working urgently” to tackle problems that interrupted the data service for most Sidekick users from 1:30 am PDT on friday. The level of disruption has varied, although most users have been affected, said Microsoft.

Tmobile Customer Service

“We are working around the clock to get all our services back online and will continue to post status updates to our valued customers and resolve problems,” Microsoft said. “We thank our customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this disruption has caused.”
Microsoft said that as of 6 pm PDT Tuesday, which had restored the service “for critical applications such as address book and calendar, social media applications, instant messaging, web browsing, media player and camera.”
“Our goal is to restore all services to 100 percent of the functionality for Thursday, but there may be some exceptions,” Microsoft said. The software maker last year bought danger.
T-Mobile offers an update on Tuesday, apologizing for the interruption, saying that users of the service credit for one month because of the interruption.
T-Mobile Sidekick forums are full of comments from users expressing frustration over the issue.
Among those affected was Ariel Barco, who said he had seen his service on Friday night and got their service restored last night. But not all his friends have been so lucky, he said.
“Many of my friends have Sidekicks and one in particular, is still waiting for your address book to be restored as we speak,” Barco said.
He said the ruling was disappointing, since it limited the ability to access social networks and the Internet, making it difficult to plan for the weekend. In addition, Barco said, T-Mobile did a good job of communicating what was happening. “The issue was not communicated to the user base,” Barco said. “I learned of the interruption on Saturday, after reviewing the blogs and forums for T-Mobile T-Mobile and Twitter. Known also checked with teammates.”

Project Playlist

Project PlaylistProject Playlist, Playlist.com user login is not working. Playlist.com is an information location tool similar to Google® and Yahoo!® but devoted entirely to the world of music. Our purpose is to help you find and enjoy music legally throughout the web in the same way that other search engines help you find webpages, images, and other media, but we also add a social /community twist.
We make it easy for you to create playlists, share your playlists with friends, and browse playlists of others. We connect you with the coolest music on the web, and we connect people who are passionate about music. Music is burgeoning on the web. Increasingly, artists, record companies, music bloggers, music websites and music critics are uploading music files to websites that they control for promotional or other legal purposes. Our mission at Project Playlist, Inc. is to organize this rapidly growing abundance of legal music on the web for the benefit of the worldwide music community – artists, songwriters, music distributors, and listeners alike.

Our view is that the more people share their individual passion for music by sharing playlists, the more music will be created, and the more the entire music industry will grow.

Playlist.com allows you to discover all of this free music legally because we respect the rights of copyright holders and we insist that you do as well. We pay royalties to songwriters and music publishers, and we respect the performing artist’s choice. Some performing artists make their music freely available on the web, others allow you to listen to only a few freely available songs through a promotional site, and a few would prefer that none of their music be heard on the web at all. If an artist tells us that our search engine is linking to an illegally posted song, we will immediately take down the link to that music file.

We are in the process of building an index of links to music files posted on webpages that meet reasonable criteria as having the legal right to host music files for streaming to end users. Although we cannot control the music files posted on webpages by others, we can and do prohibit uploading or downloading of songs to or from our site. In other words we do not host music files, nor do we make them available. We only enable users to find these files and listen to them. We also require as a condition of the Terms of Use of our site that you not add to our index any links to webpages that you know to host illegally posted music files.

Once you find music tracks that you like through our music search engine (or on another user’s playlist), you can add them to your personal playlist and then share your playlist with others. You can post your playlist on your social networking webpage or any other website, subject to the terms of use of those sites, or you can email your playlist to friends! We are constantly adding features to help you find, play and share the music you love. If you discover a legally posted music file not in our index, you can add the link to that file to our index and to your playlist. We ask that you add links only to songs that you reasonably believe are legally posted on a legitimate promotional site such as an artist website or a music blog.
Music Playlists

Playlists on playlist.com are nothing more than collections of hyperlinks pointing to music files located on websites throughout the Internet. Our music player allows you to stream the data in those music files you have found so that you can listen to the music contained in those files. When you press the “play button” associated with a hyperlink displayed on playlist.com, the remote server hosting the song begins to stream the data allowing you to hear the song. Because you have initiated the linking process from playlist.com, the song appears to play through our site. This procedure of “in-line linking” enables you to build your playlist easily by using the search and linking tools on playlist.com.

You can think of our technology as a process of bookmarking “favorites” just as you bookmark sites with any web browser. Our technology makes it easy for you to find and bookmark your favorite music files anywhere on the Internet, and then to build a series of bookmarks – your playlist. We have then made it easy for you to post and share this series of bookmarks, your playlist, which then makes its easy for your friends to find and hear your favorite music. Streaming the bookmarked files to other sites can be inefficient for you and demanding on the resources of the other site’s owner and operator. In some cases, we cache songs to make streaming the music file more efficient for you and the site actually hosting the music file.
Our Player

Our player is akin to an Internet web browser that renders data stored on a remote server. Using the playlist.com music player, which you can embed in any web page, you can listen to your playlist and thus the remotely located media files wherever and whenever you choose. For example, you can embed our player on your social networking page, and then allow your friends to listen to your playlist. We subscribe to the philosophy of an open system design. Where possible, our technology is compatible with other music players as well.
Our Search Engine

Our search engine like all search engines depends upon a searchable index of public locations on the World Wide Web. We are in the process of building an index of links to music files hosted on websites throughout the Internet for promotional and other legal purposes. We are building that index by “spidering” websites (or where applicable portions of websites) that meet reasonable criteria for having the legal right to post the music files appearing on their webpages. Typical sites that we spider include artist websites and webpages, record label websites, promotional music websites, music blogger websites and music critic websites. In addition, we allow our users to submit URLs to music files they find while browsing the Internet. We expect and ask our users to agree through our Terms of Use Agreement, to add only those hyperlinks to music files that they reasonably believe are hosted legally for promotional or other legal purposes. If you choose to submit URLs to the playlist.com search index, it is important that you first read our Terms of Use and observe your agreement. Failure to do so can result in termination of your membership.

Google’s Gmail Fail and went down

Google's Gmail Fail and went downGmail outage on Tuesday was not only an inconvenience that it calls into question – again – Gmail Fail

Gmail fell Tuesday, many users found themselves without access to their e-mail for nearly two hours. Once Google had set the mess, the company said in a blog on the origin of the blackout was overloaded servers. Sound familiar? Google gave a similar explanation in May, after a widespread outage left 14 percent of Google users around the world lack access to many services research firm.

But despite previous failures, many people still believe in the reliability of Google and the confidence that their data will always be there. PC World contributing editor Harry McCracken, for example, has kicked himself yesterday for not downloading a backup of his e-mails using Gmail functionality offline or with a mail client like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

In fact, the failure of yesterday did not affect Gmail users who have used e-mail client, since these programs are based on different servers in the electronic version of Gmail Web. But even if the user based on the old e-mail clients have lost access to their e-mail yesterday, they have been able to access archived messages with vital information from customers e-mail can save the postings on your hard drive. Anyway, you were better off yesterday with a client e-mail by the Web-only access to Gmail.  Source pcworld.com
