PANAJI INDIA: Goa police is planning to file an FIR against five policemen who were placed under suspension for their alleged nexus with drug peddlers in the state.
High level sources in the department said that the Crime Branch, which is investigating the nexus, is likely to file the FIR, soon.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav has already given his consent to file the report against all five policemen including police inspector Ashish Shirodkar.
An inspector, a head constable and three constables were placed under suspension last week after an alleged drug dealer, Yaniv Benahim alias Atala, was caught on camera confessing to be close to Shirodkar.
Atala had claimed that Shirodkar was supplying him drugs stolen from the Anti Narcotic Cell custody.
Similarly, interrogation of arrested drug dealer David Griham alias Dudu by police had also revealed few names of policemen providing him protection. While Dudu is currently in judicial custody under Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Atala was arrested on Tuesday under section 41 of CrPC.
DIG Yadav told reporters that Atala’s statement was required to probe the police drug-peddler nexus claimed in the video tape shot on spy cam, which exposed the links.

Anup Kumar Sahay: A self-proclaimed godman in Ghaziabad, he was booked on Sunday for abducting his cousin. According to a complaint filed by Subha Srivastava, mother of the victim, the accused along with his brother Ashok Kumar Sahay abducted her daughter Priyanka Srivastava on February 15. The self-proclaimed godman has been booked under sections 363, 313 and 366 of the IPC which pertain to kidnapping and forcing a woman to undergo abortion without her will.
Kripaluji Maharaj: Ram Kripal Tripathi aka Kripaluji Maharaj, at whose ashram near Pratapgarh in UP 63 people died in a stampede last week, was charged with kidnapping and rape in two cases in Nagpur in 1991. He was acquitted after the witnesses turned hostile. He was arrested in 2007 after a Guyanese woman in South Trinidad filed a rape case against him.

Asaram Bapu: Two minor boys of the Asaram Ashram-run gurukul in Ahmedabad were found dead in the Sabarmati riverbed two days after they mysteriously went missing from the gurukul in February 2008. The police booked Asaram Bapu in a criminal case pertaining to attempt to murder last year in December on the basis of a complaint filed by Raju Chandak, a former disciple of Asaram. Chandak was shot at by two persons on December 5 and he sustained injuries on his chest and shoulders. “I’ve always been driven by work and variety attracts me,” confesses Deepika.
“I’ve never been afraid of doing something just because it’s different. In fact, each role that I have portrayed on screen so far has been in stark contrast from the other,” she avers.
For someone who made news right from her much-talked about Bollywood launchpad opposite Shah Rukh Khan (in Om Shanti Om), Deepika continues to make for some good headlines. Her current offering (Karthik Calling Karthik) too made news much before it hit the theatres.
Movie buffs went full throttle about the unusual pairing between her and leading man Farhan Akhtar, some to the extent of even romantically linking the two together. “Who defines what’s usual and unusual? Like me, a lot of young people have been able to relate to all that Meera went through in LAK quite a bit and may have experienced a lot of those emotions/experiences,” she confesses.
From playing independent and outgoing characters, Deepika is now switching gears to period films and comedy — something she has never done before. “I’m playing Kaplana Dutta in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelenge Jee Jaan Se. It’s a completely different world and at the same time a very important part of history. It’s a great responsibility for someone like me and I have to do justice to the character,” quips the actor.
Sajid Khan’s Houseful is already creating a buzz (thanks to the sizzling bikini bod that Deepika flaunts) and she’s excited too. “Comedy is the toughest thing to do. Especially Sajid’s brand of comedy where you have a tough time enacting a scene because you just can’t control your laughter,” she says with palpable excitement.
Considering that she’s been part of many hit films, does she see her paycheque looking better? “To a large extent, yes. But having said that, I would also like to clarify that my price never defines the kind of work I do.” And with many Best Actor (female) nominations coming her way, does she hope to walk away with an award this year? “Awards are important. They mean recognition and appreciation of the hard work you’ve done. If I win then well, but if I don’t then I’m not going to sit and sulk. I’ll be back with better films the following year,” she ends on a positive note.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan Tuesday overcame the 1-4 loss to India in the first match to pip Olympic silver-medallists Spain 2-1 and pocket their first points in the 12-nation tournament.
Pakistan led 1-0 at half-time through a goal by Abdul Haseem, before David Alegre drew level for Spain in the 65th minute after the goal was referred to the video umpire.
Pakistan earned their first penalty corner two minutes before the final whistle and veteran Sohail Abbas’ shot was deflected into the goal by Haseem for the winner.
“The World Cup started for us today,” said Pakistan coach Shahid Ali Khan. “I hope this is going to be the turning point for us in this tournament.
“We played to a plan and it worked.”
