Rachael Harris remembers walking into her Notes from the Underbelly audition thinking “I won’t get this role.” Not because she didn’t have the comedic background to play career-minded Cooper in the new ABC hit, but because of her petite physique. “I’m 5’1” and clearly this woman is 6 foot and a model.” Luckily, she grabbed the attention of producer and director Barry Sonnenfeld as soon as she walked in the room. “I said ‘hello’ and he said ‘You have a weird voice,’” she explains laughing. “I was like ‘Oh, I think that’s good for Barry because Barry is so crazy.”
Fast forward to the present and the Daily Show alum is doing what she does best, keeping audiences laughing as part of Notes Wednesday night ensemble. Her character Cooper, a divorce lawyer, is forced to deal with two expectant couples including stars Lauren (Jennifer Westfeldt) and Andrew (Peter Cambor) and their friends Julie (Melanie Deanne Moore) and Eric (Sunkrish Bala), while friend Danny (Michael Weaver) provides the bachelor perspective.
Hollywood.com caught up with Harris to find out more about what to expect from a show about expecting.
Hollywood.com: Cooper’s personality is so much about her quick-witted delivery. What prepared you most for that part of the role?
Rachael Harris: I think that my favorite comedians have always been like Betty White and Teri Garr and Madeline Kahn and those women tended to be understated in their deliveries in my opinion. I was on The Best Week Ever and we always gave sort of witty comments, I would hope. It certainly didn’t come from my parents!
HW: Do you relate to one of the female characters more than the others, Lauren the hesitant and confused mother-to-be, ever-optimistic and also pregnant Julie or career driven Cooper?
RH: Wow, I would have to say I can relate to all three of them and that’s not just to say that. My husband and I are in the middle of trying to decide when we want to have a child and we’ve gone back in forth like “Do we?” So in that regard I can really relate to Jen Westfeldt’s character. Then I am a bit of an optimist so I really relate to Julie, but then as far as Cooper goes I like to think that I’m very direct and I do get annoyed easily.
HW: The audience can relate to many of the scenes in the show. Have you ever figured out a friend was pregnant over a coffee order?
RH: Yes, I did that with my very best friend … we went out to lunch and we were eating and she had a decaf ice tea or something and it was just a little too off and I was like, I had known she had been trying to get pregnant, but it had been over a year, so I said “Are you pregnant?” She’s like “Yes, but you cannot tell anyone. I just found out a couple of days ago.” So I can completely relate to it.
HW: You used to do improv with the Groundlings comedy troupe, do you get the chance to ad lib at all these days?
RH: Actually my favorite thing is to have a scripted show that allows you to improvise within that script. That way you can say “Hey, can I do this line this way?” That’s what was great about Stacy [Traub] and Barry is they would say “Yes, say it however it is going to be funniest. Funny trumps writing” … It is really the best because then you can really make it your own in the moment.
HW: Comedy has been your focus on stage, television and in the movies, would you consider a dramatic role?
RH: Absolutely. I started out thinking I was going to go to Broadway and do nothing but ‘night Mother … my professor said “I think you should investigate comedy more. I think you are funny,” so when I went to L.A. and did the Groundlings I was like “I get it” because I loved it so much … but I am completely comfortable doing drama and would love to do it.
HW: You’ve worked with some of the funniest guys in showbiz, including Steve Carell, Will Ferrell and Jon Stewart. What’s it like working with comedic geniuses?
RH: You know what’s great about all three of them is that they are all very serious about comedy [laughs]. I like it because they are very professional and very particular. These are very naturally gifted men in my opinion, but they are also perfectionists and they will do it until they get it right. They are always open to trying new things. The thing about Steve is he really is one of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with and whether you are a crew member or you are Morgan Freeman he treats everyone the same and he is genuinely interested … I didn’t work with Jon as much as I worked with Will and Steve just because of the nature of the show. I think they all genuinely care about the people that work with them and … just that they can come up with anything funny on the spot. Will can make anything funny, like “I’m going to open up the fridge and get a bottle of water out.”
HW: You recently worked on a comedy with Steve called Evan Almighty. What character did you play?
RH: I played Markie Parkington one of six reporters that were reporting while Evan was building the ark. I was the one who has the entertainment bent … I was trying to be like an Entertainment Tonight reporter, but there was no entertainment value. There were no celebrities, so I would say things like “What does Hollywood think about Evan building this ark? We’ll check in with Danny Bonaduce and Hank Azaria right after this.” She was over the top and I wore an orange cone colored suit that was pretty fierce. That was an amazing shoot because we were in Virginia for over eight weeks and saw the most exotic animals while working on that set.
HW: You worked on the Daily Show with Steve, what was it like to team up again?
RH: Steve is so good. I’m gushing, he’s really one of my favorite comedic actors and I shouldn’t even say comedic, he is just one of my favorite actors … we did a segment [on The Daily Show] called “We Love Showbiz” and he was brilliantly funny and so nice. We did a pilot together later. We did Andy Richter’s pilot the Lunchbox Chronicles together and he just killed me he was so funny. He is so nice and I just gush about him, so really this should be the Rachael Harris gushes about Steve Carell interview!
Swami Nityananda Update, After Kalki Bhagavan’s scam, Swami Nityananda’s sex scandal has surfaced shaking the country faith in the religious leaders and godmen.
A footage showing the Swamiji in compromising position with a popular Tamil actress was released by Sun News on Tuesday, Mar 2, leading to violence at the Swamiji’s ashrams.
The video clearly shows that the man is Swami Nithyananda. However, the woman’s face is blurred and the identity of the actress is yet to be confirmed.
While some reports say that the woman is Ragasudha, others suggest that the woman is Ranjita.
The video, which came as a massive shock to the godman’s followers, has led to widespread protests. In Coimbatore, angry followers took to streets and vandalised property.
As per local reports, the Swami’s Ashram in Bidadi is also seeing similar scenes.
This comes just a day after a Telugu News Channel TV9 exposed a scam by Vijay Kumar Naidu or Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagavan.

America has spoken once again via their voting for the musical talent on American Idol. In tonight’s American Idol results 2010, several hopefuls had their dreams temporarily shattered when they were part of tonight’s eliminations. So who got voted off American Idol this week?
So far this past week (February 21-24) has seen four of the talented singing sensations sent home. First up, the announcement of Janell Wheeler being sent home may have shocked many fans. Janell had offered up her rendition of “What About Love” by Heart. Other female contestants Siobhan, Hayley, Michelle, Katelyn and Katie were all safe from this week’s elimination. Paige, Lacey, Lilly, Crystal and Didi also made the cut, but unfortunately Ashley’s Idol appearances have come to an end. Ashley chose the Leona Lewis song “Happy” for her performance on stage.
Meanwhile for the male side of Idol. Michael, John, Aaron, Tim and Todrick survived to sing again, while Joe was eliminated after his performance of Jason Mraz’ tune “You and I Both”. In the final group of results they let Casey, Jermaine, Lee and Alex know they’re safe. Unfortunately for Tyler his 70’s impersonations won’t keep him around for the contest. He had performed The Guess Who’s classic hit “American Woman”.
American Idol 2010 results (2/25): Tyler Grady, Joe Munoz, Ashley Rodriguez and Janell Wheeler are those who got voted off American Idol. There will be more eliminations to come next week as the remaining contestants do their best to woo the judges and America.

MIAMI: Whale kills trainer as horrified spectators watch, A killer whale killed a 40-year-old female trainer in an apparent attack witnessed by horrified onlookers at Florida’s SeaWorld entertainment park.
Authorities at first said the woman died after apparently falling into the whale’s tank, but an eyewitness claimed the animal leapt out of the water to grab her in its mouth.
The Orlando Sentinel newspaper reported that SeaWorld executive Chuck Tompkins later confirmed witness reports that Tilikum dragged the trainer into the water.
“We’re in the process of investigating all of the people and the animals,” Tompkins said.
“One of our most experienced animal trainers drowned in an incident with one of our killer whales this afternoon,” said Dan Brown, general manager at the Orlando, Florida entertainment park.
“This is an extraordinarily difficult time for the SeaWorld parks,” he said said at a televised press conference.
The massive animal had reportedly been involved in two previous incidents in which a trainer and a man who apparently jumped into his tank were killed.
Jim Solomons of the Orange County Sheriff’s office said the trainer killed Wednesday — identified by SeaWorld as Dawn Brancheau — died after slipping into the tank.
“She apparently slipped or fell… and was fatally injured by one of the whales,” he said. “This appears to be an accidental death, it’s a tragic death.”
The whale, named Tilikum or “friend” in the Native American language Chinook Jargon, is among the killer whales, dolphins and seals whose shows have made SeaWorld so popular.
But he has been involved in previous human deaths, including in 1991 when a part-time trainer at the Sealand of the Pacific facility in Canada was killed in his tank, according to the Humane Society of the United States.
In 1999, after being shipped from Canada to Orlando, he was blamed for the death of a man who had apparently stayed in the park after closing.
The Humane Society said the man jumped into Tilikum’s tank and was found dead the next morning, his naked body covered in scratches that suggested he had been dragged around the bottom and sides of the tank.
An eyewitness told CNN that Tilikum attacked the trainer as she showed him off to park visitors following the Dine with Shamu show.
“He just took off like a bat out of you know what, took off really fast and came back around to the glass, jumped up, and grabbed the trainer by the waist and started shaking her violently,” witness Victoria Biniak said.
“The sirens were going off. People were running out. I’ve never seen so many SeaWorld employees come out of the woodwork.”
Another eyewitness told CNN that the whales in the tank had begun ignoring the trainers.
“We could tell this whale was not in a good mood at all. We literally could tell it was not cooperating,” said the unnamed witness.
Though killer whales, also known as orcas, are a common attraction at entertainment parks, they are known for aggressive “play” and behavior in the wild, including batting seals or dolphins back and forth.
They are huge creatures — Tilikum weighs in at least 11,000 pounds — and “are among the most curious of all whales, with a great tendency to ‘play’ and to manipulate objects,” according to SeaWorld’s website.
Tilikum was captured in November 1983 off the coast of Iceland and is one of several killer whales on display at the Orlando park, which was partially closed down after the trainer’s death.
SeaWorld’s website said its shows involving killer whales in Orlando and in San Diego, California, have been suspended.
Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement saying the death was a “tragedy that didn’t have to happen.”
First Women’s title win came on July 23, 1984, where she defeated The Fabulous Moolah at the historic “The Brawl to End It All” that aired on MTV. The ladies drew huge ratings, becoming the most-watched program in the history of MTV. This was a huge part of the “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection.” Wendi would later lose the title to Leilani Kai on February 18, 1985, and later regain it at the very first WrestleMania on March 31, 1985 in New York City. Her induction is even more historic due to the fact that she left the WWE on bad terms. On November 25, 1985, she lost the Women’s title to The Spider Lady (Fabulous Moolah), which is considered the “The Original Screwjob,” in which Vince McMahon and Wendi were in contractual dispute. The World Wrestling Council has a Women’s Championship that has been contested since May of 1987.
Their first ever champion was Wendi Richter. She defeated Monster Ripper in a tournament to become the first champion.
WWE announced former Woman’s Champion Wendi Richter as the third official member of the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2010.
VATICAN CITY: Mother Mary Mackillop, Pope Benedict XVI approved sainthood for Mother Mary MacKillop on Friday, making the woman known for her work among the needy Australia’s first saint.
The pope made the announcement during a ceremony at the Vatican and set the formal canonization for Oct. 17 in Rome.
MacKillop founded the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, an order that built dozens of schools for impoverished children across the Australian Outback in the 1800s, as well as orphanages and clinics for the needy.
With vows of abstinence from owning personal belongings and dedication to helping the poor, MacKillop is credited with spreading Roman Catholicism in Australia and New Zealand.
But she was a strong-willed advocate who sometimes got into trouble for challenging orthodox thinking within the male-dominated church. In 1869 she was excommunicated for inciting her followers to disobedience, though the bishop who punished her recanted three years later and she was exonerated by a church commission.
“This is a great, great tribute to the Catholic church and a great, great tribute to her hard work in education,” Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Friday. “This is a great honor for Australia. I offer a heartfelt expression of appreciation to the wider Catholic community.”
